French label My Vision Records presents its first year-end “best-of” compilation, showcasing 5 of its best tracks this year and presenting itself as a deep, melodic house imprint.
The Strasburg based label selected previously released music from Ben Blakwood, DkA & Lee Davon, Facettes and Search DIP for this collection, adding a special bonus track from Facettes at the end.
For those who love bottom heavy productions, there are a couple of fine examples in this compilation, starting with Facettes’ bonus track ‘R.I.P.’, featuring relentless synth stabs and a dark, sinister background. Opener ‘Afrikan’ (by Ben Watts and reworked by Sasse & Ed Ed) offers a more progressive approach, adding more and more elements to the structure of the song until it becomes an epic, pulsating track. ‘Buuv’ by Search Dip, closes the EP with a very dark palette of sound, thanks to subdued, muted-yet-intense synths, distorted hi-hats and thumping bass.
On a lighter, cheerier note we have DkA & Lee Davon’s ‘Looped Groove’, with a jumpy beat and revolving bass line and the occasional vocal sample breaking up an otherwise minimal structure. The Jef K & Gauthier DM rework of Facette’s ‘You Hear Me’ places airy, atmospheric synths atop a driving house beat for a chilled version of the original.
In all, My Vision Record’s selection of their best music from 2016 comes across as a fine collection of house tunes, giving us a glimpse on what the French underground house scene has come up with over the past year, adding one more label to look out for in 2017 when it comes to finding deep, engaging underground house tracks.
