Thousands danced together in the streets.
This past Saturday 21st, a congregation of people took the streets of Amsterdam and other key cities across the Netherlands to protest for the return of music festivals and clubs under the calling of ‘UnMute Us’.
Said protests took place in response to the government’s ban on large-scale events until at least October 31st. The ban was prompted by the spread of the highly infectious delta variant.
At the moment, only one-day events for up to 750 people are allowed in the Netherlands, so long as partygoers provide proof of vaccination, a recent negative test, or having recovered from COVID-19 in the past sixth months.
Marching in six Dutch cities including Eindhoven, Rotterdam, and the aforementioned Amsterdam, protesters took the streets and danced alongside trucks carrying live DJs. Attendees carried signs with messages indicating to ‘fight for your right to party’, and that ‘music is the answer’.
