The first step towards a gradual return to in-person gatherings.
The UK government has just confirmed that starting on July 11th, outdoor concerts, festivals, and theatre events will be allowed to resume and operate once again if they are able to comply with the COVID-19 restrictions and preventive measures.
According to a press release, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden states that outdoor events must be able to ensure ‘a limited and socially distanced audience’. Organizers of these types of events will be required to use electronic ticketing, and attendees will be prompted to supply specific information when purchasing tickets, in an effort to aid contact tracing, in the case of a COVID-19 outbreak.
This is part of a gradual return to in-person gatherings (now on its third phase), which encompasses several scheduled indoor test events, including performances at the London Symphony Orchestra, at St Luke’s Church, the Palladium, and Butlin’s holiday parks. Phases four and five, which are set to allow widespread indoor performances, have no set start date yet.
