EKKAH list 10 songs that got them into disco

EKKAH are a disco/ funk duo comprising of Rebekah Pennington and Rebecca Wilson. Having arrived with a soulful and funk edged sound they’ve already become a widely recognized up and coming live act in the electronic music space. Their unique ability to each play multiple instruments, alongside harmonic vocals all the while blending funk bass lines and grooves, and saxophone sass, has won them fans across the musical spectrum.

EKKAH just released their new single ‘Room 4 Love’ via Future Disco. For the special occasion they share 10 songs that got them into disco.

1. Jocelyn Brown – Somebody Else’s guy

“This song is definitely ‘our’ song. We play it in the back of the van and backstage before heading on stage. We preempted this song being played in a bar one night, when all the lights were coming on and the place was starting to close, ‘imagine if they played..’ and there it was, confirming our connection to this song, we lost our shit on the dance floor!'”

2. Delegation – You & I

“The way the guitars work throughout this song definitely inspired our new single Room 4 Love. The group vocals replica how we approach many of our choruses”.

3. The Whispers – Keep on Loving Me

“We LOVE this song! It has always been our dream to recreate this video for one of our songs. In our power suits with all our girls owning it!”.

4. Patrice Rushen – Forget Me Nots

“This is one of the first songs we used to cover as EKKAH and people still shout out for us to play it at gigs! – Very fun to play, maybe we’ll record it one day”.

5. Dennis Parker – Like an Eagle

“We haven’t experimented with many string parts in our writing as of yet but we would look to this track for inspiration when it comes to incorporating those sounds into our work. When we took Figure it Out into the studio this was our soundtrack of our time there, and a lot of the higher synth sounds became inspiration for the final touches of Figure it Out”.

6. Chic – Good Times

“One of the best tracks, in any setting, it is always a good time to play Good Times – Nile Rogers has been a huge hero of ours for years and we had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years back and we actually danced on stage with him to this track!”.

7. Cheryl Lynn – I’m On Fire

“This track makes an appearance in pretty much all of our DJ sets, Cheryl Lynns‘ vocal range is unreal in this track and it’s a real self-love anthem”.

8. Loretta Holloway – Love Sensation

“Another track with incredible vocals – this track was played every single time we were at this club called SNOBS in Birmingham (the club that helped us discover disco and gave us inspo to our track ‘Last Chance To Dance’)”-

9. Earth, Wind & Fire – Boogie Wonderland

Earth, Wind and Fire are the ultimate disco party band – we watched them at Glasto a few years back and it was one of the best experiences – it’s just a giant party on stage”.

10. Indeed – Last Night A DJ Saved My Life

“A classic – this track has heavily inspired one of our unreleased tracks Wendy’s Yard where we pay homage to the DJ being a very important person!”.
