Simina Grigoriu’s label Kuukou has for a while been on our radar, and its latest EP is another quality selection featuring original music by Thomas Lizzara plus a remix from German Brigante.
Along with music from the label owner, the Kuukou catalogue has included contributions from a wide range of artists, everyone from Paul Kalkbrenner to Torsten Kanzler. Focused mainly towards the modern techno sound championed by the likes of Adam Bayer and Pan-Pot, the label also has an occasional melodic edge.
This EP has brought Thomas Lizzara to our attention as prior to it, he was an artist we had linked mainly to house, but having discovered his techno side there will hopefully be more like this to come in future releases, as he clearly has a flair for the genre.
German Brigante having previously released on labels like Dirtybird and Get Physical, is someone also best known in the world of house music, but his remix is also a little bit more banging than some fans might expect.
The original cuts ‘Right Direction’ and ‘Start Running’ both have prominent synth lines with powerful melody hooks, and combined with booming kick drums along with percussion that’s got an industrial feel, they are both club bangers made with a dance floor in mind.
Using some tom drums to build his own percussive groove, German Brigante keeps the original’s synth line in his remix of ‘Right Direction’, but it’s the use of the vocal sample which really gives the rework its personality.
All three of the tracks has a slightly different personality and if you like the style of people like Oliver Huntemann, dubspeeka or Raxon then we strongly recommend you check out this release
