Non-EU tourists visiting Spain now need to provide proof of accommodation. This new rule, affecting all regions of Spain, could result in fines of up to US$ 10,000 if not complied with.
Visitors must show proof of stay for their entire visit, up to 90 days.
Proof of accommodation may include booking confirmations or an invitation letter for those staying with friends or family. The invitation letter, costing between US$90-US$100, must be issued by the host and may take 20-60 days to process. Failure to adhere to these rules could lead to fines of up to US$10,000. Overstaying the 90-day limit could incur higher fines, up to US$13,000.
In other news, local restaurants and bars will have earlier closing times due to the Prime Minister’s decision to reduce work hours to 35 per week.
