Originally appearing as part of Endangered’s Worlds Within Thee series, Samot Bidot returns for his debut solo release on the label with Canto De Ceremonia; 2-tracks of deep, lush organic beats.
Hailing from Puerto Rico but now based in the U.S., Samot Bidot has spent the last 20 years honing his craft as a producer, artist and more recently as a DJ. His track “Light Figures” was released on Endangered in 2020, and since then he has been sending his ideas to label curator Brian Cid and developing this project. Canto De Ceremonia translates to Ceremony Song, and both tracks give off the feeling of being at different parts of a ritualistic experience.
The first track “Ancestors” begins the ceremony with a slower tempo, setting the tone for what the vibe of the ritual will be: an entry point into something unknown. A subtle, yet hypnotic synth melody along with tribal percussive elements resonate throughout the track, which makes a captivating sonic experience. The tempo increases next for the title track “Canto De Ceremonia”. A heavy groove is created by the percussion panning back and forth, and this is magnified by the stripped-back, yet powerful production style. Tension rises in the background leading up to the breakdown, and chanting vocals appear and disappear throughout, which Samot uses as a means of creating “a tribute to the enchanting nature of native chant.”
Samot describes his thoughts behind the release: “This project was born from my desire to explore new musical territories and push the boundaries of my creative process. By venturing outside my comfort zone, I sought to craft an EP that would captivate listeners and showcase my artistic growth. Throughout the entire production process, my primary objective was to create something genuinely different from my previous works while ensuring my own enjoyment.“
Release date: November 3rd, 2023.
