Cristian Varela Remixes Resurrection’s ‘Desolated’ On Black Codes Experiments

True to form, it’s been another fruitful year for Spanish techno mainstay Cristian Varela. Following an impressive run of critically acclaimed releases on the likes of Manita Recordings, Induxtriall Records, Dolma Red, and his very own Black Codes Experiments, to name a few, the ever-prolific Madrileño talent continues his fine run of 2022 form with the announcement of his latest juggernaut release; a brand remix of Resurrection’s Desolated.

Released on September 16 via his long-standing Black Codes Experiments imprint as part of Resurrection’s new ANNEX 02 EP, Cristian’s remix of Desolated is another veritable masterclass in forward-thinking, underground techno from an artist who, after more than three decades in the industry, continues to demonstrate why his still considered one of the most prominent talents on the European techno circuit.

Igniting the six-minute cut in trademark Varela fashion, Cristian goes all-in from the very first kick drum, delivering an uncompromising blend of driving bass, industrial samples, and exquisitely layered drum patterns. Exploring a more hard-hitting, frenetic timbre to the original, the Spanish stalwart capitalizes his wealth of studio experience to devastating effect, as he closes out Resurrection’s ANNEX 02 EP in style.

Founded in 2000, the now esteemed Black Codes Experiments imprint has, over the past two decades, forged itself a firm reputation as one of the most prestigious, forward-thinking labels on the international electronic music circuit. Home to some of underground music’s biggest hitters (Regis, Mark Broom, The Advent, Ken Ishii, Takaaki Itoh, Tensal, P.E.A.R.L and Arnaud Le Texier to name just a few) and often given the same reverence as labels such as Tresor, R&S and Music Man, what Cristian and his label partner Ian Axide have built over the past twenty years is nothing short of remarkable.

Best known for delivering highly experimental sounds and hypnotic atmospheres with a uniquely underground treatment, Black Codes represents a beacon of consistency and musical innovation as it continues to earn widespread international support from a growing legion of dedicated fans and techno followers the world over.

Release date: September 16th, 2022.
