‘Salon Nouveau’ is part of the recent second edition of the ‘Phen-Tek’ EP written and produced by Pfreud on the Weird Island Grooves imprint. Expect melodies in orbit dancing around a rich and round synthy lead bass which pulls you through the whole piece.
‘Salon Nouveau’ is light but with a deep approach. Is it a bass line or a melody? Could it be a mix between IDM house and progressive minimal? Early-nighters and early morning groove headz will feel just like in their “salon”.
Originally from Weird Island, Montreal, Canada, DJ Pfreud’s style is a concentrated flavor of house, electro and neo-disco. He is certainly not a newcomer. As a music curator in vinyl record stores, he was in high demand during the early golden rave days in the 90s and had residencies in renowned clubs such as Tiga’s Montreal legendary Club Sona in late ’90s and early 2000. He shared the decks with, amongst others, Green Velvet, Carl Cox, Misstress Barbara, Tiga, Felix Da Housecat and Darren Emerson (Underworld).
Pfreud has been keeping buzzzy testing sounds in studio with his HOOPALAï duo (Get Physical, Kindisch, Poésie Angulaire, Icewax) and his trio “Thee FFF” (Felix Da Housecat and Lebaron). His productions explore rich analog textures going from not-so-down downtempo to more up and funky beats. Now he is devoted on his new imprint called Weird Island Grooves which presents a vast palette of sounds and grooves bringing the weirdness to the goodness. Stay tuned!
