Up next on Fur Coat’s Oddity label is the Italian, Malandra Jr. debuting with an EP of three original tracks accompanied by a remix from Avidus.

Simonpietro Malandra aka Malandra Jr., is classically trained in both the piano and clarinet since a young age, with a firm grounding and understanding of music. Stepping outside of his deep classical rooting, he discovered a passion for techno and offers a sophisticated take on the sound by mixing his musical knowledge into the electronic world.

The title track ‘North Pole Flower’ opens the package and immediately showcases his ear for melody. The piece is aimed for the dance floor and drives the listener forward, but it’s also characterized by a beautifully developing synth line. It’s a complex and evolving track which really gives the listener the scene of the artist’s abilities as a composer.

Up next is the second original on the package ‘Ambassador Of The Dark Side’. Much like the name suggests, this track shows off a deeper & darker edge to Malandra Jr. The drums are harder and faster, whilst the melodic elements are more sinister, creating a much more murky sound. This piece is really built for those late hours on the dance floor.

Closing the EP we have the final original ‘Whenever You Want’ accompanied by an Avidus remix. Again this track offers a completely different style to what came before. Slowing the tempo right down and introducing a vocal element, this track really starts to show how broad of an artist Malandra Jr. is. The Avidus remix accompanies the package perfectly, putting forward a slightly more uptempo take on the original. Utilizing a more experimental break drum pattern and re-working the hypnotizing vocal Avidus really puts their own spin on it.

Listening through to this whole EP, you are given a deep variety of sounds and styles. Malandra Jr. offers an expansive array of tracks. Each one is different to the next, whilst also being cohesive as a unit. The EP really is a joy to listen to.

Release date: October 16th, 2020.
