Jaffer Debuts on Marginalia with ‘Near & Far’ EP
Due for worldwide release on January 26, the three-part package includes an official remix from Israeli producer Accent.
Established by label boss Elif in September 2023, Barcelona-based record label Marginalia has been making considerable waves on the international circuit over the past few months.
Following a run of four hugely successful releases from some of the most talented up-and-coming producers in the industry since its launch, the flourishing imprint now looks to inaugurate the New Year in the same prolific fashion as it concluded the last, as it announces its first release of 2024. Warmly welcoming featuring Turkish artist, Jaffer, and Tel-Aviv based remixer, Accent, this is the ‘Near & Far’ EP.
Crowned Miller SoundClash World Champion back in 2016, DJ, producer and mentor, Jaffer, has since become founder of INNDROOM – a DJ and music production academy based out of Istanbul. Having dropped a number of well-received releases on ISOLATE and Harabe Black, the rising Turkish talent now lands on Marginalia for the first time with ‘Near & Far’ EP – a three-track package featuring two of his own original productions and an official remix from Israeli artist Accent.
First up, is Jaffer’s title track ‘Near & Far’. A sophisticated and emotionally charged production, characterized by eerie synth structures, lingering female vocals, and a heady concoction of pulsating four-four beats, Jaffer’s trademark composite of deep, trippy, and tenacious club music shines front and center, as he pulls out all the stops with a powerful dancefloor weapon.
Discussing his Marginalia debut, Jaffer commented:
“I’ve known Elif for many years and have been admiring her work. When I saw that she founded Marginalia, I knew I’d thoroughly enjoy being a part of it. I immediately shared ‘Floora’ and ‘Near & Far’ with her. In my compositions, I generally love blending unique sounds. ‘Floora’ is a bit dark and groovy, while ‘Near & Far’ received positive feedback from listeners, especially for its emotional vocals. And with the powerful remix by my dear friend Accent, it gained even more meaning. I’m eagerly anticipating the day to share these with the audience”.
The middle order sees the introduction of Israeli producer, Accent, who captivates with a remarkable remix of Jaffer’s opener. Also making his debut on Marginalia following a run of standout releases on the likes of Kinetika Music, 01FRBL and Bunny Tiger, Accent’s remix of ‘Near & Far’ gradually builds in intensity, as it pulls the listener deeper into its mesmerizing embrace. Echoes of distant voices and industrial samples add an air of unease, leaving space for personal interpretation and introspective connection.
Completing the package is Jaffer’s second and final original production, ‘Floora’. An imposing, mechanic juggernaut replete with frenetic synth work, undulating motifs and complex rhythmic patterns, Jaffers’s nuanced treatment of dissonance and abstract textures converge in perfect accord to conclude yet another extraordinary release on Marginalia.
