‘Mixed Feelings’ is a sonic portrayal of the myriad of emotions and moods that we often encounter in our everyday lives, from optimism to euphoria, introspection, and apprehension. Drawing inspiration from classic house, rave house, and electro from the 90s, this four-track EP showcases Gabi Fischer’s versatility and genre-fluid approach as a producer.
The EP kicks off with ‘Let It Ride’, a groovy and upbeat house track drawing inspiration from classic clubhouse tracks from the 90s. It features a deep Korg bassline, an evolving acid synth line, classic 4/4 drums, and a male spoken vocal sample that evokes feelings of hope and optimism.
Wannabe is a more fast-paced, rave-fuelled house track driven by a hard-hitting Korg M1 bassline, evolving synth melodies, soaring vocal samples, and beefed-up drums. The track embraces the euphoria of 90s rave culture and represents the beautiful moments of exhilaration we may experience when we push ourselves out of our comfort zones.
‘Daydreaming’ is an electro-infused track that embraces a more introspective mood. The emphasis here is on the melodies and rhythm rather than the dance floor aesthetic. The track is made up of a series of vocal cuts woven into broken drum patterns, futuristic-sounding atmospheres and trippy guitar licks. As the name suggests, the track is dreamy and contemplative.
‘Why Don’t You’ closes out the EP with a darker overtone featuring robotic grooves, synth pulses, squelching acid lines, and a driving baseline that oozes with menace. This track aims to capture the essence of our darker moments when we confront feelings of apprehension and anxiety.
