Nordic-British quartet Permafrost has just released two remixes of their latest single ‘Ultimo August,’ building anticipation for their upcoming album ‘The Light Coming Through,‘ slated for release on October 11th, 2024.
Bassist Robert Heggdal, aka Bob Frost, has reimagined ‘Ultimo August’ into two distinct electronic pieces. These remixes blend the icy darkness of winter with summer’s warmth, creating a sonic landscape that evokes both melancholy and an urge to dance.
The remixes maintain Kåre Steinsbu’s haunting baritone vocals while introducing a darker, electronic tone inspired by iconic acts such as Depeche Mode, DAF, and New Order.
Formed in Molde, Norway in 1982, Permafrost has been a cornerstone of the post-punk scene for decades. The band’s current lineup includes founding members Frode Heggdal Larsen and Kåre Steinsbu, alongside Robert Heggdal and Daryl Bamonte—the latter having worked with acts like Depeche Mode and The Cure.
Their upcoming album, ‘The Light Coming Through,’ promises to be a sonic refuge from the chaos of modern life, blending synth-infused post-punk with politically charged lyrics.
Despite being geographically dispersed across Trondheim, Oslo, and Margate, Permafrost has maintained a strong creative connection. The global pandemic unexpectedly boosted their productivity, with virtual sessions leading to the creation of their upcoming album.
