UK’s onedotsixtwo has been one of the most stylish progressive house labels of the year. Head honcho Tripswitch is clearly on a mission, and every release has been a step in the right direction. With a catalogue that balances household progressive names like Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Cid Inc & Tripswitch himself, with some of the hottest up & comers like Forerunners, Antrim, Mønje and Partenaire, the label has been turning heads all year round. And their latest release has them showing no signs of slowing down.
Some EP’s, you just know they are gonna be good. It’s this blend of artwork, track names and the artists on the roster. A rare occurrence, but it does happen. This is certainly one of those moments. Australian born Matter is the brains and soul behind ‘Dusk Till Dawn’, onedotsixtwo’s latest outing.
With two mesmerizing original tracks, this might just be Matter’s finest hour. ‘Eastern Sunset’ is the first stop on our way. A club track with a jet black groove, where stabs and swells intertwine, creating a piece that exudes emotion. All the while, ‘Western Sunrise’ proves to be equally entrancing. High on the percussions, and strutting a pulsating low end, it feels a bit more colorful with its festival-moment breakdown. Two peak hour masterpieces, from one of Australia’s finest exports.
On remix duties, the names are a perfect pairing. Greek maestro Stelios Vassiloudis is up to dazzle us first, with his reinterpretation of ‘Eastern Sunset’. A house-ier take on the original, Stelios breaks the beat for a stronger frame, with a more seductive approach. Clever as ever, it’s clear to see just why Stelios is one of the finest genre-benders out there.
Label boss Tripswitch has been in demand this year, with releases on Sudbeat & Movement, collaborations with Nick Warren & Hernan Cattaneo, and some fantastic remixes. And his rework for ‘Western Sunrise’ shows just how good a producer Nick Brennan is. An infectious blend of bass and percs that tread down to a fabulous breakdown. A place where the soul of the track resides. Definitely one the magical highlights of this EP.
Nick has an ear for talent, and his inclusion of Plus Thirty for this EP is another example of this. The greek duo have been on the rise, with releases on Transpecta and ICONYC so far. ‘Eastern Sunset’ is theirs for the taking on this one, and they create something that’s nothing short of a club monster. Powerful and bit more dramatic, it proves to be the perfect piece to round of a highly creative year for one of progressive house finest labels.
