Music industry key members come together for Black Music Action Coalition

The fight for racial equality and inclusion rages on.

In a continuous effort from the music industry to stand with the Black community, this Monday, June 22nd, a large group of key players consisting of artists, producers, managers, execs, songwriters and others have banded together to create a new non-profit organization known as Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC). This initiative comes at a moment in which social action propelled by the Black Lives Matter movement has seen a wide range of actions that seek to tip the balance for racial equality and inclusion. The coalition bows to work in alliance with #TheShowMustBePaused, to ensure the music business industry implements a long-term strategy in order to combat systemic racism. The group will deliver an official plan of action in the next 30 days.

The BMAC, which boasts some 160 artists, counts with the support of heavyweights like Pharrell, Snoop Dog, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, and Travis Scott. Meanwhile, the organization’s advisory board also features ‘The Black Godfather’ Clarence Avant, legendary producer Quincy Jones, and manager Irving Azoff

According to a statement by BMAC founding member Binta Brown, ‘The music industry, unfortunately, has not been immune to the systemic racism that plagues our country. Fixing our society requires addressing the issues in music, media, and entertainment. And it requires all of us working together. Our aim is to harness the power of music and activate our community to effectuate real, positive systemic change not only within the music business, but for our artists, black communities, and society as a whole’.
