The last day of the festival was as equally impressive as the others. It had less attendance and that made it a touch more relaxing in terms of space. We are guessing this is due to the amount of after-parties and that some folks were already returning home. As we approached the main stage we could hear mobilee records’ boss Anja Schneider mixing some powerful tech house tunes. She had a crowd of avid dancers and followers shouting and clapping as she showcased with great energy a top selection of her own imprints including the latest release ‘Galaxy’ by Artifact and ‘Last Love’ by The Junkies, recently released on the Swedish label Truesoul.
Coming up was iconic Dj master John Digweed. He delivered an brilliant session, mixing some deep tech house and techno with ease, and evolving through his set with the unique precision that makes him one of the best in the business, if not the best. Tracks like Baikal’s “All Forces Occur In Pairs” were the building blocks for some of his highlights like Drumcode’s recent release “Rivers Will Turn” by Patrick Siech & Sebastian Mullaert.
While Digweed was killing it on the main stage, Joseph Capriati was pumping high energy and bouncy techno on the Beatport stage. He kept the crowd involved and had a massive party in front and behind the decks. His release in collaboration with Adam Beyer “Parallels” was on cue as we danced our way into the night. His set was definitely one of the crowd’s favorite.
The listening choice of festival closing sets was tough to decide. Richie Hawtin had canceled because of visa issues and asked Danny Tenaglia to close for him. On the Red Bull Stage there was Get Real with a B2B of Claude Von Stroke & Green Velvet who was Grandma Techno’s closing choice. Local techno master Kevin Saunderson was on the Thump stage after the usual Guy Gerber madness, and Modeselektor was playing their live set at the main stage.
We stayed with each of the closing options for a few minutes and everyone was putting their hearts into their craft. As midnight arrived, we took our tired feet back to the hotel. Our souls were at peace and it seemed that the smiles on our faces would never fade. Thanks for the love Detroit. We will be back!
