Parisian storyteller Mashk returns to the Labo T imprint with two new otherworldly tracks in the shape of his sublime ‘Yadi’ EP. Following the success of last year’s ‘Eyes Don’t Lie’ EP on the French imprint, the producer takes things one step further with an epic late-nite tale that fascinates and marvels in equal measures, showcasing the progress in Mashk’s musical journey as someone who looks far beyond the current landscape for inspiration.
Gentle and deep, album opener ‘Yadi’ rolls on a delightful rhythmic section that entangles listeners with its warm stride, allowing for delicate strings to glide and traverse in intimate fashion, as if no one were watching them, unaware. it’s that sensation of having caught an unrepeatable moment forever in time. Textures and vocal samples decorate the arabesque palette, creating a vivid, captivating imagery as the music soars and fills the room for an enchanting bit of music.
The second side of the EP, ‘Laka’, is built on rich percussive patterns that lead the way down to swelling synthesizers that move like dunes in the sand under the beaming Moon. Out of the blue, a powerful low end surfaces to tread the sands with ease as arpeggios light up the path, meandering down to a cinematic breakdown. An oasis of sorts where we bear witness to the mirages of the night for inspiration before we set our course for one more adventure in foreign and mystical lands.
It’s fair to say that Maksh’s ‘Yadi’ EP is more than just music. In almost 11 minutes, the Parisian producer is able to narrate a story worthy to be told over one thousand and one Arabian nights. One to be retold for ages.
