Since the COVID-19 outbreak, most forms of live music events have been either suspended or banned until further notice. Now, Marc Geiger, one of Lollapalooza’s co-founders, believes that a return for that kind of event might be much further than most of us expect.
During his recent appearance on The Bob Lefsetz Podcast, Geiger states that he believes that concerts and festivals won’t resume until 2022. ‘Whether it’s testing or the government, it’s too infinite of a well to go down. But in my humble opinion, it’s going to be 2022. It’s going to take that long before what I call the ‘germaphobia economy’ is slowly killed off and replaced by the ‘claustrophobia economy,’ which is where everybody wants to go out and go out to dinner and have their lives, go to festivals and shows’, further explained Geiger.
He also maintained that large events like shows, festivals, and sporting outings, that might serve as ‘accelerators’ will be under a ‘very long, forced timeout’ until we can find the means to control the respiratory viral disease.
