Experts and government officials stated that there will be no more large-scale events until next year.
Live music and major events around the world have been paused until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many of the concerts have been suspended and even rescheduled for the coming months; however, an article published in Resident Advisor indicated that the cancellations could go on for longer than originally planned.
Bioethicist Dr. Zeke Emanuel and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti provided interviews recently, confirming that the path back to live music may have been extended. In fact, both warn of the poor feasibility of possibly reprogramming festivals such as Coachella, Dekmantel or Primavera Sound.
Dr. Emanuel explained to The New York Times that the norms will be reinstated in stages. He considered that he does not see as “a plausible possibility” the massive events this year. ‘I think those things will be the last to come back. Realistically, we’re talking about the fall [September to November] of 2021 at the latest’, he said.
For his part, the Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, confirmed to CNN that in the coming months there will be no major events. ‘Public health officials have made it very clear that we have miles and miles to walk before we can return to those settings’, he told Wolf Blitzer. ‘The last thing I want to do is gather 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 people in one place. That is exactly the opposite of social distancing’, he added.
Fans of music, sports and mass events, in general, will have to wait for the possibility of large-scale encounters to be re-established, as a measure to prevent further spread of the COVID-19 virus around the world.
