Between dystopian visions and flashes of the past, the definitive tastemaker John Digweed returned to Argentina again to tell us what music will be like one day. Having blown up the mythical stage of Forja in Cordoba, the English DJ arrived in the capital of Buenos Aires on the afternoon of Saturday, September 17th for a double date that had us vibrating high in the imposing Mandarine Tent of the capital city for the daily shift.
The meeting began with the pristine mixes of the local DJ, Martin Garcia. Recognized for being one of the Argentine exponents with the longest trajectory in the scene, he is the owner of a selection and temperance behind the decks that classify him among the best warm-ups that progressive has to offer. And this time was no exception as he shone with absolute style and pure finesse. The artist knew how to put together a climate that left the clubbers at the right point and still left an extraordinary margin of maneuver for the legendary DJ.
Owner of the iconic Bedrock label, John Digweed’s inimitable career positions him as one of the world’s true pioneers and visionaries. With a legion of fans that transcend genres, just as his own sets, Digweed has consistently set the pulse of electronic music through the decades, and his Mandarine Tent performance is a case in point
Going through the proto-tribal-future-dub of David Morales on his ‘Stereo Remix’ for Pig&Dan’s ‘Make You Go Higher’; the exuberant bass lines of ‘Cristina Lazic – Mirror’; the renowned version of ‘Solomun – Home (Boyz Noize Remix)’; the new interpretation by Tara Brooks of an absolute classic like ‘Pole Folder & CP – Apollo Vibes’; Rinzen’s unreleased Bedrock tunes ‘Love Interest’, ‘Magical Realism’ and ‘The Alchemist’, to the brilliant closing that saw Digweed dazzle with an unknown remix of ‘Wish I Didn’t Miss You’, by Angie Stone, the red-haired DJ confirmed again just why he is still considered one of the best in the world.
