EG caught up with ÜNAM to learn more about the release of his ‘Dreams of Kumara’ EP, his future plans for his The Magic Sun imprint, and more.
EG: Hi ÜNAM! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?
ÜNAM: Hello, thank you so much for having me on EG, it’s an absolute pleasure to be here. I’ve been lately riding the waves of creativity and beats, exploring new sounds and approaches doing collaborations with different artists. Right now, I find myself in my creative haven, my studio.
EG: First of all, congratulations on the release of your new ‘Dreams Of Kumara’ EP! What has the reception been like?
ÜNAM: Thank you so much. The reception for my new EP has been very good. I’ve received support from both fans and fellow DJs. As a result of the EP’s success, Proton Radio reached out to me and invited me to do a guest mix for Spotify because of the release. It’s been great to have the opportunity to feature the tracks from my EP there along with some of my latest releases that have been making waves. This includes my ‘Presence’ EP on WAYU Records, my ‘Quicksand’ remix for The Oddness, and one particular track that has been gaining momentum, ‘Fly (Instrumental Version)’. The original version of ‘Fly’, with vocals that have been heating up dancefloors this year, will soon see the light of day and will be accompanied by a pack of remixes that add even more flavor to the release. I’m delighted to have released the ‘Dreams of Kumara’ EP with Dialtone Records and doing that feature of the release on Spotify. I’m happy with the results and the collabs inside it.
EG: So, is there an inspirational or emotional trigger to these songs? What can your fans expect to find on this one?
ÜNAM: Absolutely! Each song on this EP carries its own inspirational and emotional essence. ‘Pure’, as the name suggests, is a sonic expression of purity, clarity, and stillness. It takes you on a journey maybe through nature, evoking original and raw emotions that resonate deeply within.
On the other hand, ‘Reconnection’ reminds us to reconnect with ourselves. It captures those moments when you may have lost sight of your center or equilibrium, you feel lost. It’s about rediscovering that connection within yourself and finding your way back to a state of alignment, as it says in the track “The true self is never lost”, we only have to go back to it.
Overall, this EP is a heartfelt exploration of emotions and self-discovery. So, expect to find a collection of tracks that evoke a sense of purity, emotional depth, and self-reconnection. I hope that these songs will resonate with listeners, offering them a moment of introspection and a chance to connect with their own inner selves.
EG: And what was the process of collaborating with Coda Chrome like? How did ‘Pure’ come about?
ÜNAM: It all began when we met some years ago, she told me to work together, and I really liked her voice listening to it live. So I created the instrumental part of the track, and it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring our creative energies together.
We embarked on a remote collaboration, as she was in Canada at the time. I shared the instrumental with her, and she resonated with it. She took the track and recorded her vocals, infusing it with her unique artistic perspective and emotive delivery.
After Coda Chrome completed her vocals, she sent them back to me, and I took charge of the final mix. It captured the essence of ‘Pure’ and was the perfect final touch for the track.

EG: By the way, you’re behind your own label now, The Magic Sun. What drove you to this project? What can we expect from The Magic Sun in the next months?
ÜNAM: Launching my own label, The Magic Sun, has been an incredibly fulfilling experience, as it allows me to materialize my artistic vision and share it with the world. This project was driven by a deep passion for music and the desire to create a platform that embodies my approach and concept of it.
In the upcoming months, you can expect a range of exciting developments from The Magic Sun. We’ll be releasing our first set of tracks, each carefully selected to encapsulate the essence of our label’s concept. These releases will be accompanied by the continued episodes of our podcast, ‘The Magic Sun Cast’, where we explore the latest sounds and invite talented artists to share their unique understanding of music. Furthermore, we are planning as well doing our showcase event, a concept that embodies the spirit of The Magic Sun, bringing together artists and music enthusiasts to celebrate and connect forming a cohesive community dedicated to this particular approach to music.
The concept of The Magic Sun revolves around music that contains an indescribable warmth and energy, like a sun shining from within. It’s a fusion of emotive melodies, infectious grooves, deep basslines, and hypnotic rhythms that evoke different moments of the day, from sunset to sunrise and everything in between… and also sometimes the midnight sun. The music concept we present is designed to transport listeners to a realm where time stands still, where they can immerse themselves in the complexity and beauty of sound.

EG: How do you view the role of an alchemist in your sets? How do you skillfully capture the energy of the dancefloor and transmute it into a powerful and uplifting experience for the crowd? Does channeling such energy have an impact on you?
ÜNAM: As an electronic music artist my role is to harness the raw energy of the dancefloor and transmute it into a powerful and uplifting experience for the crowd. It’s a transformative process where the artist takes the collective emotions, desires, and energy of the audience and channels them through the music.
Capturing the energy of the dancefloor requires a deep understanding of the people dynamics, intuition, and a keen sense of timing. I pay close attention to the crowd’s reactions, their body language, and the energy they exude. With that, we can create a sonic journey that resonates with the dancefloor and their soul.
I believe that the energy exchange between the crowd and the artist is a symbiotic relationship. As I channel their energy, their enthusiasm fuels me, and in turn, I pour my passion and creativity into the performance. It becomes a reciprocal process.
Channeling this energy has had a profound impact on me as an artist. It’s a transcendent experience. I become fully immersed in the music, feeling the pulse of the crowd and becoming one with the dancefloor. The energy flows through me, igniting my own emotions and intensifying the connection between myself, the music, and the audience. It’s a beautiful synergy that fuels my inspiration.
At the end of the set, witnessing the euphoria, smiles, and sense of togetherness on the dancefloor is immensely rewarding knowing that we’ve created an experience that touched people’s lives, and brought joy to their hearts through music.
It’s a powerful exchange that not only impacts the crowd but also profoundly affects me as an artist, driving my creativity and allowing me to connect with people through the universal language of music.
EG: What can the audience expect from one of your sets? What would you like the audience to take away from your sessions?
ÜNAM: When the audience steps into one of my sets, they can expect to embark on a transformative journey going through grooves and melodies that penetrate deep into the soul. My aim is to create an experience that not only moves their bodies but also touches their inner selves.
I want the audience to leave my sessions with a profound connection to the music and themselves. I hope that they experience moments of pure euphoria, losing themselves in the music and connecting with the collective energy of the crowd. I want them to feel uplifted, inspired, and moved on a deep emotional level.
Ultimately, I want the audience to take away a sense of joy, liberation, and self-discovery from my sets carrying with them the memories of it leaving a lasting impact on their hearts and minds.
EG: How do you keep entertained when not in the studio? Where do you go for inspiration? Are there any new films, books, or albums that have caught your attention recently?
ÜNAM: When I’m not in the studio, I find various ways to keep myself entertained and inspired. One of the things I do outside of music is the practice of hypnosis. Also exploring the depths of the mind and understanding how we function is incredibly fascinating to me. It’s a personal journey of self-discovery that allows me to tap into different realms of creativity.
Additionally, I find solace in meditation and in nature as is a source of inspiration for me. Being surrounded by the beauty and serenity of the natural world invigorates my spirit and sometimes finds its way into my music.
In terms of seeking inspiration from external sources, I find great joy in traveling and immersing myself in different cultures and experiences. Listening to other people’s stories, understanding their perspectives, and feeling the emotions they convey through their words and music provide me with a rich tapestry of inspiration.
As for a book I’ve come across one called ‘The Master of Kites’. It’s a beautifully written story inspired by Tibetan culture. It delves into profound themes and offers a unique perspective that has resonated deeply with me.
Ultimately, my inspiration comes from a combination of introspection and observation of the world around me. As I evolve as an individual, my music naturally evolves with me, reflecting my journey and experiences along the way.

EG: What’s next for ÜNAM? Where can your fans catch you next? What new milestones are you looking forward to in 2023?
ÜNAM: Exciting times lie ahead, there are several upcoming opportunities to catch me in action. Right next up I’ll be in Barcelona. Moreover, 2023 brings a slew of highly anticipated releases on esteemed labels such as Bar25, HMWL, Qualista, and more. These tracks have allowed me to explore new sonic territories and push the boundaries of my sound so I’m thrilled to share these tracks with the world knowing that they will ignite dancefloors and resonate deeply within the soul of the listeners as I’ve tested them longly this year on my performances.
In addition to these label releases, I am eagerly looking forward to significant milestones with my own imprint, The Magic Sun, as well as its podcast. The label will see its inaugural releases, introducing the world to its sound. It’s a thrilling chapter that allows me to curate and showcase artists who share my passion and vision. I’m excited to see The Magic Sun grow into a platform that celebrates the magic of music and unites a community of like-minded individuals.
