Raised by a musical family, Trent Hadid’s passion for electronic music has seen him make inroads into Sydney’s infamous clubbing scene. His love of house & techno has seen him deliver memorable sets with some of Sydney’s most respected underground venues and promoters, including Electric Gardens Festival, We Love, The Burdekin, Zoo Project, Home, Sweet Hearts, Something Else, and T1000 Events. Now producing his own tracks, Trent is waving intricate sonic stories that have enriched his own sets, and the artist is on the prowl for more.
Fresh off from his participation in our EG Techno Series, we caught up with the emerging Trent Hadid to learn more about his inspirations, his new residency, his aspirations for the future, and more.
EG: Hello Trent! We’re excited to have you here with us today. How have you been? Where are you right now?
Trent Hadid: Hey! Thanks so much for having me, I am super excited to be here also. I’ve been great, the music world is back on track again and we are slowly getting back to our normal ways of living here in Sydney, Australia.
EG: Congratulations on your PLAT4RM residency! What can you disclose about this new adventure?
Trent Hadid: Thanks! My good mates Damian (T1000 EVENTS) and Rodd (Rodd Richards Presents) started this venture post-Covid with a goal to bring some life back to Sydney’s infamous King’s Cross. The venue is a great nightclub that has survived NSW’s lockout laws and covid! From what I have seen so far, the parties there have been mental, and they have had some serious talent like Victor Ruiz, Thomas Shumacher, Indira Paganotto, and more.
EG: Sounds like exciting times ahead! Especially with your upcoming releases on KUSIYA Records, TETTIX & WeLove Records. What can you tell us about these?
Trent Hadid: Yes, I am super excited for these releases to come out! I really put my head down through Covid and worked hard on my production. These releases were the outcome and I can’t wait to play them out.
EG: Where do you find inspiration? Do you have any creative routines to get in the zone?
Trent Hadid: I really love the idea of traveling the world doing what I love and getting paid for it, so I try to picture that every day, which helps me to push through resistance and stick to my daily routines. I am a big believer in “what you put into your life is what you will get out of it”. So, I know that if I keep doing the hard work every day the good things will come eventually.

EG: Do your releases tell stories? Or do you view them more like sonic expressions?
Trent Hadid: I’ll be truly honest. My productions are reflections of how I am feeling that day or at a specific point in time. My harder and more energetic releases come when I’m feeling strong and full of energy, and maybe even some anger! My groovy, more melodic productions reflect my softer musical side, when I’m feeling calm, relaxed, or even sad.
EG: By the way, we really enjoyed the recording of your live set taking over from Indira Paganotto. What was that night like? What emotions were running through you?
Trent Hadid: I’m glad you enjoyed it! It was such a great set. Indira was amazing she had that club pumping right up until the end of her set! I had a chat with Indira before her set, asking if it was ok to pull her set back so that I could mix in with an intro I produced. She was totally fine with it and thanked me for asking. The transition was great we clapped Indira off the stage and I proceeded with my set. The intro was mysterious and grabbed the crowd’s attention. It was about a minute build-up of melodic and a deep dark growling pad which exploded into my first track of the set! It was ON after that. Hands were in the air, drinks were flowing, and the dance floor was vibing! My last track was special though, it was great to see so many people still there at 4 AM as it’s unusual for this to happen in Sydney.
EG: And now you must be looking forward to your shows alongside Jamie Jones and Spektre. What can your fans expect from these performances? How do you go about preparing sets to pair with two very different artists?
Trent Hadid: Yes, super excited for these shows. The Jamie Jones gig will be at Home Night Club, which will have multiple levels of music, Techno being the terrace. There’s a proper vibe on that terrace and I can’t wait to drop some bombs.
The Spektre gig will be special. Sydney is lucky enough to get a lighting festival once a year called Vivid and the boat will be sailing around the harbor, passing all the landmarks which will be lit up and vibing culture! This gig will be an all-techno lineup, so I’m expecting a fun crowd!
EG: We’ve all had a chance to slow down in the past years and reassess. What would you like to see more of in our scene? What would you like to see less of?
Trent Hadid: Great question. I’d love to see more support for the people who are throwing these great parties. It’s just really hard to get people out of the house these days, but I think it’s getting better slowly.
Also if you like a certain DJ or producer, don’t be afraid to reach out to them and just say: “Hey I loved your set”… or “This track sounds sick”. It’s so simple, but it gives us artists the motivation that we need to keep pushing forward!
What would I love to see less of? Definitely, restrictions that our government has put on the music and entertainment industry. It’s absolutely uncalled for and makes it very hard for events, artists, and workers to be secure in a job. I believe events should be safe and monitored, but you don’t need to treat us like children. Pre-Covid, you couldn’t get into a club if it was 1min past 1:30 AM, even if you were a DJ…couldn’t do shots after 12, ridiculous amounts of police at festivals which cost promoters hundreds of thousands, etc. Less of that, please..

EG: What’s next for Trent Hadid in the next few months? What new milestones are you looking to celebrate?
Trent Hadid: I’ve got some really good gigs coming up which I can’t announce just yet, I’ll keep working on my productions, I hope to have 10 tracks out by the end of this year, and there could be some international gigs in the works 😉
