In conversation with Maeks

Luxembourg-based producer Maeks makes his debut on Lauter Unfug delivering a quality release with four special tracks. We had the chance to talk with him about his new EP ‘Emission’.

Electronic Groove: Hi, Maeks, thanks for taking the time to chat with us. Can you give us some insight on when you decide to dedicate your life to music?

Maeks: Thanks for the invite. My first encounter with electronic music was attending to a Paul Kalkbrenner show. After his performance, I was positively shocked! I wanted to do the same and I bought 2 machines to start practicing. Afterwards, I created a Live project with my brother producing the beats on my own. One day I met the guys from Lauter Unfug and I showed them my stuff. They supported me to keep going, and also to start a solo project. I was always more into producing than into DJing, but I always try to have my own style on both.

EG: You just released your first solo EP ‘Emission’ on Lauter Unfug. How many tracks include? Can you describe the production process?

Maeks: The EP has 2 original tracks and 2 remixes. Last year I worked on different ones but didn’t share them with anybody. Then I showed my music to Lauter Unfug members and they really liked, proceeding to sign them on the label.

EG: What was the inspiration to produce these tracks?

Maeks: Once I had a sad situation about climate change. Then, that night I sat on my computer and machines,  bringing my feelings into these tracks.

EG: EdOne and Huntemberg will be remixing the tracks. Why did you choose them to give their own versions?

Maeks: I am a fan of Hutenberger since some time ago, and Lauter Unfug introduced me EdOne, which I really like his style. I love their versions and play them very often.

EG: Any other release planned to go out soon?

Maeks: My next EP is already taken but not sure when will be out.

EG: Summer is just around the corner. What are your plans for the season?

Maeks: I’ll be on tour with my Lauter Unfug friends, playing on their festivals. Also, just celebrated my birthday on May 31st with Hutenberger at Lumberjack.

EG: As a musician and performer, what is your definition of art?

Maeks: I define myself more as a producer. I think Djing is mainstream now and I prefer that people see me on the production side. I am also working on a Live set to have more fun with the crowd.

EG: Can you mention your favorite track of the Lauter Unfug catalog?

Maeks: One of my favorite tracks is ‘Osiris’ by Beatamines
