Luna Semara: “My big masterplan for this year is to develop a live set that would suit my capabilities and also involving my voice”

After Luna Semara’s recent EPs ‘The Pink Room’ and ‘Mustafa’ on Herzblut Recordings, 2018 will see her developing a live concept involving her voice.

We had the chance to talk with Luna Semara aligned to her latest release, ‘Yul Brynner’ EP.

Electronic Groove: Hey Luna, thanks for taking the time to do this. First things first, how are you?

Luna Semara: Thank you for having me! In general, I’m fine but at the same time unsatisfied, still searching for my safe place musically speaking. Maybe it´s a search in vain, but worth it anyway.

EG: How has the new year been for you so far?

Luna Semara: It started really smoothly on the seaside with time and peace. That helped for new ideas to emerge.

EG: Let’s talk a bit about your music, if you could only describe it in one word, what would it be and why?

Luna Semara: Self-assured. There is no need to use tricks, like people who are confident are also very attractive in a very natural way. They don’t need to rush or to manipulate, they accept not to be liked or to be liked or loved, which is not always a matter of course, if you think about it.

EG: Now you are ready with your first release of 2018, what can you tell us about it?

Luna Semara: ‘Yul Brynner’ has been in my case for so long, I’m really happy to seeing it and ‘Blackwash’ finally release it. I really wish they will find friends and lovers.

“When I started DJing, I couldn’t even eat before a gig, I felt I was going to be sick. I really had to be brave and threw myself at it. It took quite a long time before I became more confident”

EG: How does the rest of the year look for you so far? Anything in particular you are looking forward to?

Luna Semara: My big masterplan for this year is to develop a live set that would suit my capabilities and also involving my voice. It’s a big thing for me to undertake, as I usually don’t like vocals with techno and I’m not a trained musician. I hope that my will to learn and my technical understanding will do the trick.

EG: When did you realize that you wanted to work with music?

Luna Semara: Music really doesn’t feel like work to me, because I really don’t think of it as a career path. It just helps me living my life. Which means everything.

EG: What would you say have been the biggest challenges in your career?

Luna Semara: When I started DJing, I couldn’t even eat before a gig, I felt I was going to be sick. I really had to be brave and threw myself at it. It took quite a long time before I became more confident. Now that I made so many positive experiences, it´s usually pure Joy. I know that when I’ve been enjoying myself and I was really in the flow, the spark ignites. Now I feel completely at ease as if I was just enjoying the party myself. Its a strange but wonderful feeling. Now I’m ready for the next challenge…

EG: Do you have any tips or advice for people who want to start DJing?

Luna Semara: Do what you have to do. If you are able to find your own voice with continuous dedication, there will be an echo.
