LOVRA: “Being in the moment means everything to me”

LOVRA is as unique as her hometown Berlin. Just like the city, the DJ and producer is well known for her unique energy and vibe. She loves to combine her passion for music from the 90s and 00s with modern melodies, danceable house beats, striking vocals, and grooving and rolling basslines.

LOVRA’S unique sound has been VIP Ticket to almost every major festival, including Tomorrowland, Tomorrowland Winter, Parookaville, Melt!, World Club Dome, Nature One, Beats for Love, Sea You, Electrisize, Panama, Magnetic, Ikarus, Love Sea and Rave On Snow, to name drop only a few.

EG caught up with LOVRA to learn more about the drop of her new single ‘Can’t Control’, her plans for the future, and more.

EG: Hi LOVRA! It’s a pleasure to have you here with us today. Where are you based right now? How have you been?

LOVRA: Hello EG, thank you for having me! I am currently in Berlin, and I also live here.

EG: Congratulations on the release of your new single ‘Can’t Control’! What has the initial reception been like?

LOVRA: Thanks a lot! The response is very positive. ‘Can’t Control’ is featured in great playlists, in big radio shows, and played by amazing big artists. I couldn’t be happier 🙂

EG: What’s this one all about? What can your fans expect to find on ‘Can’t Control’?

LOVRA: In ‘Can’t Control’ people can find that no plan always works out the way you think it will, nothing can really be controlled. Instead, you’re supposed to let yourself go and walk through new open doors.

EG: Do you usually tell stories through your tracks? Or do you view them more like sonic explorations? Where do you usually find inspiration?

LOVRA: All my tracks have my soul, my experience, and my emotions in them. I always tell a little story or experience from my life and share it with people. I take my inspiration from encounters with people, events that accompany my everyday life, or simply short moments that make me happy. It is important to me to communicate with people and to draw energy and creativity from them. The moments on stage also give me everything; the connection with people and being in the moment means everything to me. This is my elixir of life, my love of life.

EG: You have been a resident at David Guetta’s BIG party at Ushuaia for the past two years, as well as having supported him on tour. How did that relationship come about? How hard is it to balance life on the road and finding studio time?

LOVRA: David Guetta has a good relationship with my management, and he liked my music. I was allowed to DJ with him for the first time in 2017 at his FMIF party at Pacha Ibiza. He liked my set so much that in 2018 and 2019 I was allowed to DJ as a resident DJ every Monday at David’s BIG party at the legendary Ushuaia in Ibiza. Everything together has harmonized so well that I was also allowed to be his support on his world tour. It was an absolutely mental and exciting time! I cannot say in words how proud I am of it and how amazing it was. I still get goosebumps when I think about it. I had a fantastic time, and I am extremely grateful for the experience and for the people I met during this time!

Having to balance life on tour, every time, is not easy for me but I’m used to it. I have a plan for when I go to the gym or when I see family and friends. It is not always easy to plan your free time appropriately. But I have an extremely good team behind me who always have my back and a wonderful family and friends who support me in every way and give me the strength and love I need.

My time in the music studio is a similar process. I make time to go to the studio with my team. When I’m not in town, we have Zoom sessions and it works perfectly.

Also, when I’m touring a lot in the summer, I have an amazing and creative team at my side who work with me to create new club bangers. I’m never alone and what counts for me is teamwork makes the dream work.

EG: We also know that there’s more original music landing on Cr2 in April and an EP on Repopulate Mars in May…Is there anything you can anticipate on that front?

LOVRA: I’m beyond excited for the release of the EP with Repopulate Mars as it’s not only the first EP I’ve ever done but also a tribute to the 90s and 00s, which I feel very connected to. What I can reveal is that the ‘House Of House’ EP is something really special and brings the era of the German rave scene from the 00s back to the dancefloor.

EG: Now, let’s rewind this one…How did you first come across electronic dance music? What was that journey into becoming a DJ and producer yourself?

LOVRA: I started with music when I was very young. My grandfather was a music teacher. At the age of about 6, I started recording music from the radio with a cassette and made my own mixtapes. Later in college, I showed the world my music world with a YouTube channel – I searched for newcomers on SoundCloud and curated their music on YouTube. At some point, I just felt it. I knew the time had come to produce my own music and learn how to DJ. I sold the channel and with that money, I learned to produce and DJ. That’s how LOVRA was born.

EG: How do you keep entertained when not in the studio? Are there any good new books, movies, or albums that you’d personally recommend?

LOVRA: I love reading thrillers and my second passion is painting. I paint on large canvases. I have painted all my life and also studied graphic design and art. At the end of the year, I would like to make my first own small vernissage. But I also like the peace and quiet and draw new energy from it. When I listen to music at that time, it’s preferably RnB or chill vibes. And I like to go to the gym or just love hanging out with my cat. I’m not a Netflix expert but I always like to get good recommendations 😉

EG: So, what can we expect from LOVRA in the near future? Where can your fans catch you next? (we can talk about upcoming dates here).

LOVRA: You can expect numerous new releases on some amazing labels this year and I can hardly wait! I will kick off in the USA in July and am looking forward to finally diving into the American market. And Ibiza can’t be missed this year. You will find me at Pacha and Café Mambo.

Catch me this May at the Berlin Dance Music Event; June 24th at Ministry of Sound, London; Electric Love Austria on July 6th, SMAG Sundance, Germany on July 8th, Parookaville, Germany on July 20th, and Nature One, Germany on August 4th.

I am very excited about what 2023 will bring to the table and can’t wait to share everything with you. I am very happy right now and looking forward to everything that is coming.

EG: Thank you so much for your time LOVRA! We wish you all the best. Take care!

LOVRA: Thank you very much and see you on the dance floor <3
