Lexer: “Bar25 tells a great story every time”

In recent years, Lexer has become one of the best storytellers in electronic music. It is not only his sets we’re talking about, but his captivating productions as well. No question, his deep melodic techno touches people. He never stands still, constantly working on his musical vision.

For his latest production, Lexer joins the Bar 25 Music family with an EP titled ‘Randamn’.  The release is filled with nostalgic synth lines and a slender trance fleur, the package comes with a remix from a German duo T.M.A.,  and a special 1/1 NFT edit also available for the crypto followers. Here’s our conversation with him ahead of the release…

Electronic Groove: Hello Alexander! Thank you so much for being here with us. Where are you based now?

Lexer: Hey, nice to meet you too guys! At the moment I’m in the south of France and I’m still enjoying my break here.

Electronic Groove: How are things over there with the lockdown? Is the city opening again?

Lexer: I’ve been alone in my own home and studio for almost over a year. It was too much, so I had to get out. Leipzig is still in lockdown but slowly getting better. But here in France, it’s not really that different, but the weather is huge and much more enjoyable 🙂

Electronic Groove: What are the expectations moving forward as we start to slowly leave this behind?

Lexer: I’m getting some of my first booking requests, so I think we are on a good track with all the possible vaccines now. Of course, we still need some time, but I do see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Electronic Groove: Tell us a bit about your musical background. What are your first memories of dance music? Is there any particular track that got you hooked?

Lexer: At the very beginning I used to go out to clubs as a guest, but I quickly realized that I wanted to be behind the turntables. I found myself looking for new electronic music every single day. I would say that ‘Daniel Bortz – Boys 2 Men’ is the first track that took me on a very emotional journey. Since then, I haven’t been able to separate myself from electronic music.

Electronic Groove: What 3 artists would you say are the ones that paved the path for you to become an artist?

Lexer: Paul Kalkbrenner, Marek Hemmann, and Mauro Picotto

Electronic Groove: Let’s talk about your latest EP ‘Randamn ‘coming out on Bar 25 Music. What can you tell us about the inspiration behind it?

Lexer: I produced the track last year during this ‘Corona summer’. It was during lockdown, but the sun was shining and it was beautiful weather outside. This brought me to channel the positive melody that characterizes the track. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to do outside due to the lockdown, so some heavier tones come out in the track. It’s the combination of these that brought out the track ‘Randamn’.

Electronic Groove: The EP has a remix by T.M.A. What are your thoughts on it?

Lexer: Personally, I think the guys did a really good job. I really like the remix and their interpretation.

Electronic Groove: Why the name ‘Randamn’?

Lexer: It’s a play on words between ‘damn’ and ‘randomness’. It’s a ‘damn randomness’, because the track was created during lockdown and probably would never have been created without the pandemic before us.

“I have created my new own label together with Tom Zeta. It’s called Manus In Mano and we will release my
first single there this summer”

Electronic Groove: How did you connect with Bar 25 Music?

Lexer: The guys asked me if I would be interested in releasing on their label, and for me, Bar25 tells a great story every time. Everybody knows about Bar25 and the work they’ve done over the years, so I’m very proud about releasing with them.

Electronic Groove: Diving into the studio…What’s your set-up like? Do you favor physical gear over digital? Any particular new hardware or software you are digging?

Lexer: My studio is very simple. At the moment my favorite toy is the Ableton Push 2. Since I got this one, my production process is much easier and gives me also a lot of new possibilities and inspiration for new sounds. I prefer digital plug-ins. And yes, that’s it, a small keyboard and I can start my production process 🙂

Electronic Groove: In terms of productions. Do you have anything lined up for the summer?

Lexer: I have created my new own label together with Tom Zeta. It’s called Manus In Mano and we will release my first single there this summer. I have so far postponed other releases because, unfortunately, there are still no gigs in sight this summer.

Electronic Groove: Thank you so much for your time, Lexer. We wish you the best going forward! And hoping to meet you in Miami 😉

Lexer: Appreciated and Miami sounds really good! See you there! 🙂
