Since she first surfaced in 2016, eveava has been rapidly paving her path with a melodic and dynamic sound, ranging from house to techno to disco. Her versatility has enabled her to share decks with an eclectic set of artists, including Floating Points, Nicola Cruz, Fatima Yamaha, Djuma Soundsystem, and Pantha du Prince.
We caught up with eveava to talk about the upcoming ‘Djembe’ event to be held next Saturday, March 14th at Miami’s Palapa alongside Wolf + Lamb and Nii Tei.
Electronic Groove: Hello eveava thanks for the time to chat with us. After a short break, you and Nii Tei are preparing a new ‘Djembe’ at Miami’s Palapa. Can you elaborate on what is the event’s concept?
eveava: Djembe is a gathering. A celebration without a set of preconceived guidelines in terms of genre, time, or location. Nii Tei and I wanted to have a monthly event in which we could play, invite our friends to play and book artists that we both admire.
EG: Wolf + Lamb are headlining, why you choose them as guests on this occasion?
eveava: I discovered the Wolf + Lamb label and their work as talent hunters back in 2011, while doing research for an interview I did with Nicolas Jaar –my favorite artist ever. I learned that W+L had put out ‘The Student’, the EP that introduced him to the dance music world when he was 17. After this, I also started listening to Gadi and Zev’s productions and remixes and fell in love with their vibe. Then, in 2017 I met them at 1800 Lucky one day that Nii was actually opening for them. We chose them because their work is legendary and because they’re really cool, laid-back guys. We think they’re a perfect fit for the third installment of Djembe.
EG: Can you explain more about the invitation phrase “Gather together in Peace”?
eveava: According to the Bambara people in Africa, the word ‘djembe’ comes from the saying “Anke djé, anke bé”, which translates as “Gather together in Peace”. That’s exactly what we want to do in our events– just chill and listen/dance to good music with our friends.
EG: What kind of music should we expect to listen?
eveava: Disco, funk, afro-beats, some nice house. All the good stuff!

EG: Apart from Djembe are you working on other projects? How’s your agenda looking like?
eveava: I am a graphic designer and filmmaker. I am currently working on a film about the rise of women in the Miami underground music scene that will be released in the fall. I am also learning how to produce. My goal is to put out my first EP early next year.
Electronic Groove: Interesting! Now, how would you define your sound?
eveava: Don’t think I could define it, but I think it’s a conversation between African rhythms and progressive melodies, sparked with some disco/funk.
