ÅNDfØLK: “We’ve been making music behind the scenes for 15 years now, so it’s been really nice to see the reception”

Operating anonymously and letting their extraordinary music speak for itself, ÅNDfØLK are a production outfit making rich, evocative, and engaging house music that paints an otherworldly picture while remaining deeply rooted in club and dancefloor culture. Their music explores deep, organic house sounds with a strong focus on melody and atmosphere.

Rather than rushing out their music, each track is painstakingly crafted and allowed time to morph and distill before being revealed, allowing each release the time and space it deserves to reveal a new chapter of the ÅNDfØLK story. Despite relatively little in the way of promo their music is already making waves, having hit a million plays on Spotify and with a fanbase that’s growing by the day.

We catch up with ÅNDfØLK to learn more about ‘Magnetic’, their newly released single; their origins and how they came to be; views on music, and their stance on anonymity.

Electronic Groove: Hi guys! Welcome to EG! We’re excited to have you here with us. How are you doing?

ÅNDfØLK: Thanks for having us! We’re all good, just wrapping up 2021 and looking forward to some chill time before a busy 2022.

Electronic Groove: Congratulations on the release of your brand new single ‘Magnetic’! Are you excited about this new release on Caramel Records? What has the initial reception been like?

ÅNDfØLK: ‘Garden’ (our September release) and ‘Magnetic’ are slightly more stripped back than our normal tracks. We made them during lockdown, and we guess, subconsciously, we made 2 tracks that we feel work great played low level at home, or when turned up in a club they get people moving. So far we’ve had a great reaction when we’ve dropped them on the dance floor.

Electronic Groove: What can you tell us about this one? Where did the inspiration for ‘Magnetic’ come from? What can we expect, sonically?

ÅNDfØLK: We were working on our bass sounds in a creative session and during that came up with the bass line for ‘Magnetic’. Instantly the creative session became a writing session. All the pieces came together very seamlessly, which is where the song title came from. We fell in love with how emotive it is and found it took our minds to euphoric peaceful places. Sonically, we feel it’s on an ethereal-organic tip but keeps a nice steady melodic groove.

Electronic Groove: There’s a distinctive Depeche Mode touch to it we can’t help noticing. You’ve done the rounds in the ‘industrial’ circuit, right?

ÅNDfØLK: (Laughter) That would be telling. What we will say is we’re very familiar with the white isle, we’ve been on/off residents for the last 10 summers, the rest we will let you read between the lines. But more importantly, thanks for the MEGA comparison, touched by that!

Electronic Groove: This is just your fourth release ever, but your previous singles have already seen their fair share of success. How are you guys navigating through this particular situation? Have you been through something similar before?

ÅNDfØLK: We know the industry relatively well, we have a huge respect for anonymity, so we’d rather not give too much away. We’re navigated by Space Goats and Panda Sharks.

Electronic Groove: How would you describe your sound by now? Is it what you thought it would be when you first started?

ÅNDfØLK: We’ve been making music behind the scenes for 15 years now, so it’s been really nice to see the reception, and we have so much in store for you guys. What we release over the next 2 or 3 years is going to be super varied, we hope you like it!

Electronic Groove: What is your process like in the studio? What does each one bring to the table?

ÅNDfØLK: We have experience from both the live side of things and the studio side, so really it’s just about keeping in touch with both, and also always doing what feels good, not worrying about expectations, genre classifications, etc – and not overthinking the creative process.

Electronic Groove: You’ve gone with the bold decision of ‘hiding’ behind anonymity. Was this a premeditated decision when you first started ÅNDfØLK or did you just simply find no need to share anything but the music?

ÅNDfØLK: We’re all about the music and would love for that to do the talking.

“We have experience from both the live side of things and the studio side, so really it’s just about keeping in touch with both, and also always doing what feels good…”

Electronic Groove: What’s next for ÅNDfØLK? What new milestones can your fans look forwards to in the coming months?

ÅNDfØLK: We are looking forward to a big year of releases in 2022. Switching gears for two of our EP’s and working on a debut album.

Electronic Groove: Thank you for your time guys! We wish you all the best for the future!

ÅNDfØLK: Thank you for your time and thank you for having us. Big love, ÅNDfØLK x
