After being marooned in a small beach town in Brazil at the start of the pandemic, California-born Gene On Earth eventually made it home to Berlin. As the reality of the global situation sunk in, he set to work on his second album, working in an obsessive daily rhythm waylaid only by a nasty bout of covid. After gathering an arsenal of samples and inspiration he returned to the studio for 5 months of feverish work. Set for release on June 3rd via his own Limousine Dream imprint, ‘Time On The Vine’ is the result of his toil.
To celebrate the drop of his ‘Time On The Vine’ LP, Gene On Earth shares with EG his 10 favorite tracks from the 21st century.

2. DMC – Special Occasion (2021)
‘This is a very slept-on tune. Just the right amount of emotion without ever getting too sappy. A real sunrise beauty.’
3. DMX Krew – Sea Change (2017)
‘Slowed down minimal funk from a dude more known for his electro stylings. Possibly my favourite track from his back catalog.’
4. John Shima – Dimensions (2015)
‘The definition of a heads-down nugget. Purely electronic – beautiful and functional at the same time.’
5. Soul Designer – The Soul Is Back (Marco Passarani Remix) (2012)
‘This remix from Marco Passarani is a pretty far cry from the majority of his normally more techno tunes. It feels good and has a proper bassline on it.’
6. KAB – Heat (2007)
‘One of my first ever “digs” when I stopped searching just for new music years ago, found amongst a bunch of garage tunes in Croydon’s infamous DNR Vinyl shop. A dark cruiser that always sets a mood.’
7. Mandate – Dial This (2007)
‘It’s a bit too short for my taste, but this is the type of tune that inspired me to start adding many more layers of complexity to my own productions. Sounds almost unlike anything released around that time. Rest In Peace Dan Jugle. ‘
8. Claus Bachor – Greencard (Extend. Hypnofunk Mix) (2006)
‘I just dug this out from my shelves a few weeks ago after not playing it for close to 5 years and discovered it has certainly stood the test of time. The bassline’s first entrance never goes unnoticed.’
9. Midas – Juice Stop (2003)
‘This sounds like pure UK Wiggle era tech house, but according to Discogs, MIDAS stands for Motherfuckas In Dallas And San Diego. Respect.’
10. Mayaku – Funketeers (2002)
‘Pure linear functionality. This features a seriously driving groove and a break that’s 2 hairs short of too long, but it never fails to stimulate the floor in a big way.’
