Sol Selectas drops its last release of 2021, and it’s an incredible three-track EP from Turkish duo Derun. Derun’s organic house/downtempo tracks have featured on numerous Sol Selectas releases, and earlier in 2021 they dropped a solo track on the label’s Summer Sol VI compilation.
This time, Derun are returning to Sabo’s record label with three of their own tracks on an EP titled ‘La Sombra del Viento’. 2021 has been another solid year from Derun who in the last 12 months dropped remixes on the likes of A Tribe Called Kotori and LNDKHN, plus did EP’s for other imprints including Underyourskin Records.
Each of the tracks on this EP have a mid-tempo around 115 BPM, and combine Derun’s cultural heritage with electronic beats to create organic house with a strong Middle Eastern influence.
‘La Sombra del Viento’ kick starts the release with its tinkling synth melody and mesmerizing vocals that are joined by the free-flowing chords of an acoustic guitar. ‘Ven Hermosa’ is led by a strong female vocal that’s layered with the mesmerizing tones of a flute, and the flamenco-influenced ‘Descalzo’ closes out the release with what’s described as “a modern take on a classic kind of dance music.”
