Music, architecture, and industrialization together.

Carl Craig has revealed his latest project. We refer to the ‘Party/Afterparty’ sound installation that he will develop at New York’s ‘Dia: Beacon’ museum, hosted by the Dia Art Foundation.

On this occasion, Craig’s mission will be to create a sonic environment inspired by the museum’s architecture and the history of the building, which originally was a packaging factory. Given this idea, the techno artist expressed that he loves the marked parallelism between this post-industrial construction and the architecture of Detroit.

In addition, in this installation, the DJ and producer will also explore his personal vision of what it means to work in the electronic scene, so it will reflect the euphoria on the dance floors and the feeling of loneliness that follows this experience.

“This project at Dia has allowed me to explore a new scope of what I can achieve with my music. The work itself is a reflection of my reality – the visual, sonic and emotional connections or disconnections I have experienced over the past 30 years as a DJ on the road. In contrast to the glamorous perception of the touring musician, I wanted to reflect the isolation of the many hours spent alone in hotel rooms and the tinnitus that I, and many other artists, have to contend with as a result of our work. I make music to satisfy my soul, and when I perform, I invite others into my world. Similarly, when you step into this vast space, it is like stepping into a reflection of my own mind. The stark parallels between this post-industrial space at Dia, and the architecture in my hometown Detroit, a place
that has always catalyzed my creativity, are fascinating to me”, the North American artist added.

‘Party / Afterparty’ will be open on March 6th, till September 7th, 2020. In addition, Dia: Beacon will host a series of events that will include live shows by Carl Craig himself.
