Cabaret Voltaire’s Richard H. Kirk has died

The cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

Richard H. Kirk (65), best known for his work with industrial outfit Cabaret Voltaire, has passed away this Tuesday, October 22nd. The pioneer and multi-instrumentalist was a fundamental part of the post-punk scene during the mid-90s with the Sheffield-based band.

The news circulated online through a post by Kirk’s label Mute, which stated: ‘It is with great sadness that we confirm our great and dear friend, Richard H. Kirk has passed away. Richard was a towering creative genius who led a singular & driven path throughout his life & musical career.’

Richard enjoyed a career that spanned over three decades, as the trio gained recognition through new industrial and EBM sounds during the late 70s and early 80s while also incorporating performance art. Kirk later released some solo projects in the 1990s, finding himself immersed in the blossoming era of techno, and producing music under some 40 different aliases.
