With renewed energy, UK imprint onedotsixtwo is back at it once again after a short summer hiatus with a powerhouse of an EP in ‘Resonances’, which might just be their boldest delivery so far.
Dutch maestro C-Jay has got to be one of the most unique producers Progressive House has got to offer right now. With imagination-defying albums on giants Bedrock & Replug, he now returns to onedotsixtwo, for a release of epic proportions. This time, C-Jay links up with UK’s Ryan McCormack (Einmusika) for ‘Resonances’, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.
If you take a look at onedotsixtwo’s back catalogue, you’ll find that the UK based imprint, led by Progressive stalwart Tripswitch, has a knack for putting out some of the best collaborations in the past years. Now, C-Jay & Ryan take centre stage for a hybrid of a beast that knows no genre.
Embracing a very sensual frame, crafted by one hellraiser of a bassline in combination with a panoramic 360º synthline, violent stabs carve the way for a gorgeous piano line that entices us to come out and play. All the while, psychedelia reigns wild as syncopated vocal samples give it a funky touch, right down to a heavily modulated breakdown that showcases the just how creative the pair can be.
On the flipside, the EP offers a very groovy remix by RPO. The Frenchman is an institution by now in the Progressive House realm, and this remix is a testament of what his legacy is all about. Deep from the onset, the lights go down for this one. All the sway from the original idea is there, but the parts move in different directions as RPO infuses the remix with eye-catching arrangements, for a growling delivery that may never go out of style.
In a time in which the “has everything been done by now” debate is hot and on the table, I say “well..you haven’t heard this one before”.
