Investing €2.2 million from 2023 to 2026.

Amsterdam has announced plans to support its night culture by introducing 15 new measures and investing €2.2 million from 2023 to 2026. The city’s main focus is to find additional spaces to address the shortage of venues for nightlife. To achieve this, Amsterdam is working with developers, landowners, and private individuals to convert garages, empty tunnels, and bomb shelters into new temporary or permanent venues. In addition, the city will establish a fund for sound insulation to reduce noise complaints in residential areas.
The municipality recognizes the important role that night culture plays in Amsterdam’s economy, with popular tourist attractions like Paradiso and Amsterdam Dance Event. To support this industry, the city has allocated €2.2 million over the next four years, with €1.2 million being set aside next year by the Amsterdam Fonds de Kunst, a fund for culture and arts in the city. The goal is to support young creatives who aim to organize and create nightlife businesses.
According to Councilor Touria Meliani, “The night culture is facing pressure due to rising costs, temporary leases, and lack of space. As a municipality, we cannot solve all of these challenges on our own, but through this implementation agenda, we aim to work together to create an accessible and attractive night culture that is safe for visitors, artists, entrepreneurs, and organizers.”
