Last night, the iconic Royal Albert Hall transformed into a retro-like spaceship, thanks to the mesmerizing performance by the French duo Air. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal album ‘Moon Safari’, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel delivered an unforgettable show that was nothing short of a galactic experience.

The stage setup was a visual spectacle with what I would imagine would be the interior of a vintage spacecraft. The illumination was a stunning blend of vivid colors, perfectly synchronized with the stage design to create an ethereal atmosphere. The ambiance lights further enhanced the mood, making the venue feel incorporated into the stage.
Opening with ‘La Femme d’Argent,’ Air immediately transported the audience back in time. The entire ‘Moon Safari’ album was played with impeccable precision, reminding everyone why it remains a timeless classic. Each track was given new life, with drummer Louis Delorme adding depth and intensity, making the songs feel both nostalgic and refreshingly new.
The second half of the concert was a thrilling ride through Air’s extensive catalog. The audience was treated to a selection of hits from their other albums, each performance more intense and immersive than the last. The music took on a Pink Floyd-esque feel, with layers of rock and psychedelia blending seamlessly into their signature sound.
Highlights included the relentless groove of ‘Kelly Watch The Stars’ and the radiant warmth of ‘Ce matin-là.’ As we got “lost in translation”, the duo showcased its ability to create emotionally evocative soundscapes, while ‘Don’t Be Light’ added a different edge to the set.
The evening concluded with ‘Electronic Performers,’ underscoring Air’s own status as an innovator in the genre, blending nostalgic elements with futuristic sounds.
In the end, the concert was a brilliant celebration of Moon Safari’s legacy and a testament to Air’s unique ability to merge the past and future into a musical journey. The live stream gave us the ability to enjoy every moment from the comfort of our home, paired perfectly with a bottle of Bordeaux in honor of the French duo. After witnessing such a performance, we are already looking to buy tickets for their next show, eager to relive the experience but in person.
