Jorgio Kioris: “Right now, I am trying to experiment as much as I can”

DJ, Producer, CEO & Music Founder of Bloque Festival, Jorgio Kioris infused the dancefloors around the world with his original production as well as unforgettable sets. With countless releases on many major record labels including Movement Recordings, Juicebox Music, Replug, Balkan Connection, ao, and more, he always finds time to share his love for music with anyone who can appreciate his style.

EG caught up with Jorgio Kioris to learn more about the drop of his ‘Marylinn’ EP on Movement Recordings, his relationship with Tash and the label, his future endeavors, and more.

EG: Hi Jorgio! Welcome to EG!. How’s your year so far? What have you been up to these days?

Jorgio Kioris: Thanks for the invitation. It’s been great considering how it was last year due to covid. Hopefully, things are getting back to normal. Actually, I just came back from an event I played at last week.

EG: First of all, congratulation on the release of your ‘Marylinn’ EP via Movement Recordings! What has the initial reception been like?

Jorgio Kioris: Had a great time playing it on my gigs live and watching the crowd dancing to it. Was nervous before the release because I wanted to see what the reaction would be. After a few days though, I can say with a smile on my face that I was happy with the comments. The very first ones came from close friends.

EG: Where does the name ‘Marylinn’ come from? Someone special I guess?

Jorgio Kioris: I usually name a track as something that has meaning to me. This one, specifically, I’ve given the name of a close member of my family that passed away a few years ago.

EG: Petar Dundov had the remixing duties. How would you describe his take of ‘Marylinn’?

Jorgio Kioris: I’ve been following Petar since the first time I’ve heard one of his songs, and trust me it’s been more than a decade! I was thrilled to hear that would be in charge of remixing my track. He has a special style of sound that makes him unique. Legend.

“I just don’t try to limit myself between music styles, genres, etc… If I find something interesting, I go for it without hesitation.”

EG: You’re defiantly not a new face on Movement Recordings. Tell us a bit about how you connected with the label?

Jorgio Kioris: Label boss (Tash) and I have known each other for a long time. We’ve been sharing ideas and music for a long, long time. From there we agreed to release a few songs and then ended up as my main management/agency. Exciting things ahead!

EG: And in your opinion, what makes Movement Recordings special? How does the label differentiate from the rest?

Jorgio Kioris: I have seen all the progress since day one. I can reassure you that the main focus is music and then comes the “brand” name of the artist. It might sound cliche and easy to say, but not that easy to follow. We know cases that had been rejected by other labels because they weren’t that well known in the early days. They made the first release under Movement Recordings and did great on the charts.

EG: Moving into a more personal angle of your craft. How would you describe your sound by now? How was it evolved since you first started producing? What would you say are your main strengths and what would you like to improve?

Jorgio Kioris: Right now, I am trying to experiment as much as I can, based on my mood at the current time and the inspirations I’ve taken from everyday life, like most people I guess.

I just don’t try to limit myself between music styles, genres, etc… If I find something interesting, I go for it without hesitation.

EG: Do you have any new releases for the coming season? Can you give us some inside info? What new milestones are you looking forward to in 2022?

Jorgio Kioris: My next solo EP will be released by Polyptych Music, and also an upcoming remix along with my buddy Da Luka on Juicebox Music. I am also looking forward to our partnership with Da Luka as we create our own record label. The last couple of months we’ve been intensely working on our very first releases and we’re almost there to make the big announcements. Stay tuned!

EG: What would you advise the young who are trying to make it the music industry? Any special tips?

Jorgio Kioris: You have to work obsessively hard. Be true to yourself and make the kind of music you believe in.

EG: What are your top 3 clubs to play at and why?

Jorgio Kioris: First place is Printworks. The combination of visuals and sound is outstanding. Will go for the second choice with fabric London, which in my opinion is an icon of our scene for more than 20 years. Third, Cavo Paradiso at Mykonos, Greece. The place is magical, summer season and the artists that have been playing over the years give you a completely different feeling from anywhere else in the world.

EG: How about your favorite restaurant? What is your favorite dish there?

Jorgio Kioris: Would go with Italian kitchen. I’d choose a place I visited recently, OVIO in Athens, Greece. Can’t decide what dish I should order first.

EG: Thank you for your time Jorgio! We wish you all the best for the future!

Jorgio Kioris: My pleasure, was great sharing some thoughts with you guys! Cheers.
