Introducing the DDJ-REV-1 and the DDJ-REV-7.
Last week, leading music tech brand Pioneer shared a cryptic video on social media, suggesting a new controller was on its way. Now, the firm has unveiled not one, but two digital ‘battle-style’ Serato controllers known as the DDJ-REV-1 and the DDJ-REV-7.
Resembling the layout of two turntables and a mixer, the REV-1 is the entry-level controller in the range, aimed at users of Serato DJ Lite, which the layout mimics. The mixer section reminds users of Pioneer’s DJM-S series, their flagship controller for ‘DJ battles’, but the decks see the tempo slider to the top of the controller rather than on the side, while the jogs are the same size as those on the higher-end DDJ-SB3, for more accurate scratching.
Also a two-channel unit, the REV-7 was constructed with advanced users in mind, as it comes with all the features for Serato DJ Pro. The REV-7 features 7-inch motorized jog wheels, including on-jog display. The key difference between the REV-7 and the REV-1 is that many of the features such as sample triggering and FX are all built into the unit and can be used without a computer.
