Last weekend, Tag der Clubkultur (‘club culture day’) took Berlin by storm, as forty city clubs and collectives organized simultaneous indoor and outdoor events, highlighting the cultural value of the scene. That spirit lingers on, and among the initiatives that have emerged, we now find an open letter signed by dozens of artists, including clubbing legends such as Ellen Allien, Sven Väth, Mousse T, Dr. Motte, or Paul Van Dyk, and promoted by the Booking United association. which has a hundred agencies that represent, in total, some 2,500 artists and DJs, all behind the #Don’tStopTheDance hashtag movement.
The open letter is addressed to the federal government and calls for the protection of the sector and, above all, seeks to look out for the best interests of small artists and self-employed workers in the industry.
‘We call on politicians, especially those in the fields of culture and economics, to listen to us and support us in this challenging phase. We need immediate, fast, and effective financial assistance, precisely tailored to our specific requirements. We are grateful for the packages and donations we have received so far, but we see an urgent need for more help. We would love to participate in the search for a constructive solution together’, reads the letter.
