Collaborations are always a special deal. We can only imagine what the outcome might be like before we begin, but we can never really be certain. And not every collaboration is bound to work out. Maybe that’s why it’s easy to recognize when things just fit together. Which is exactly what happened when two of USA’s brightest talents decided to merge sounds. Forerunners & Mir Omar’s ‘Time Interrupted’ EP is nothing but a gem of release.
Back at it again on Tripswitch’s acclaimed onedotsixtwo label, Arizona’s Brenden LaBonte better know as Forerunners joins forces with New York’s Mir Omar, for a sublime slice of progressive house. Their connection goes way back, with both artists being Solarstone disciples. Their take on progressive trance (check out ‘Magnetic Quartz’ by Forerunners, or Mir Omar’s releases for FSOE UV) has found a place in the crates of some of the finest tastemakers in the game like Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Aly & Fila, while their brand new ‘Time Interrupted’ has been gracing speakers worldwide.
Emotion is what powers their new creation, as the pair invites us to feel. As full-bodied percussions set the mood, ethereal stabs sway in and out. In the blink of an eye, the groove becomes heady. A gorgeous concoction of synthesizers that react with each other, all the way down to a delicious breakdown, setting off a chemical reaction, dopamine in pure state. ‘Time Interrupted’ paints an atemporal sonic mural, which showcases the best from Forerunners & Mir Omar.
For the reinterpretation of ‘Time Interrupted’, Tripswitch tapped one of Sri Lanka’s finest talents in Subandrio. With releases on labels like Sudbeat, Replug & Perspectives DIgital, he has been dazzling clubbers with his energetic take on the melodic genre for years now, and his remix shows just us why. The African producer provides the ‘hands-in-the-air’ moment here, with his solid frame groove, that takes the original on a rollercoaster ride, filled with twists and turns while the skies are set alight.
onedotsixtwo’s ever-expanding catalog continues to bring forth some the underground’s most distinct talents to the spotlight, and ‘Time Interrupted’ is another clear example of why the label is held in such high regard by some of the best DJs in the world.
