Berlin-based Emanuel Satie’s career has blown up since he came to the public’s attention in 2016 with his rework of Late Nite Tuff Guy’s remix of ‘I Get Deep’, which hit the top spot in the Beatport charts. He’s won the coveted Best Producer award in the DJ Awards and had a string of releases signed to impressive imprints including; Saved Records, Moon Harbour and Knee Deep In Sound. 2018 saw his track ‘Don’t Forget To Go Home’ given the accolade of Essential New Tune from Radio 1 tastemaker Pete Tong at Miami Music Week.
We caught up with Emanuel Satie to talk about his debut at Miami’s Get Lost and other MMW gigs.
Electronic Groove: Hi Emanuel, thanks for chatting with us. You are about to fly to Miami for
the Miami Music Week, what are your expectations about it?
Emanuel Satie: Hey guys, it’s my first Miami Music Week, so I’m not 100% sure what to expect, I have a feeling is gonna have to do with the beach, great weather and lots of parties. Also looking forward to meeting my friends from all around the world again, play great gigs and eat Cuban food.
EG: You will be playing at the infamous ‘Get Lost’ party. First time? You better be ready for a 24-hour musical experience!
Emanuel Satie: (laughs) Oh I’m ready! I heard a lot about the party already from friends and can’t wait to experience it. I’m super happy to be playing such a quality show already at my MMW debut.
EG: Which artists are you looking forward to catching playing that day/night?
Emanuel Satie: I mean Damian (Lazarus) is the man, especially looking forward to his back-to-back-to-back with DJ Tennis and DJ Three. Butch, Guy Gerber and Bedouin always play fantastic sets as well, I’m also looking forward to checking out Ae:ther’s live set, I love his productions, interested to see how that translates. I also really wanna check out Diplo playing, what he achieved and how he conducts himself has always been an inspiration to me, musically it’s different to what I do but it seems he’s playing a house set there, so I can’t wait to check that out.
EG: Any other confirmed gig during that week?
Emanuel Satie: Yes I’m also playing Do Not Sleep at the Epic Hotel with an incredible line up with the likes of Carl Craig, Danny Tenaglia, Davide Squillace and of course Darius Syrossian and more. On Sunday I’m playing the closing of Electric Pickle back-to-back with Patrick from M.A.N.D.Y, another place I heard a lot of and I’m super grateful to play it for the last time.
EG: You recently released ‘Time For Love’ produced alongside Pete Tong. How do you feel about working with such an iconic artist?
Emanuel Satie: It’s definitely an accolade that a legend like Pete is up to work with me. The track is flying up the charts already, one week after the release it already cracked the Top 5 of the house charts on Beatport. So I think we did a good job 🙂
EG: Where did you meet him and how this idea came to reality?
Emanuel Satie: Pete is supporting me since early in my career, he has always played my music in his shows and eventually invited me to play after him in London. After that I thought „hey if he likes my music so much, why not propose a collab. I think he was not immediately convinced, but after he heard my track ‘Don’t Forget To Go Home’ last year, he finally sent me some ideas he had been working on. The stems were fire and from there on we built the track.
EG: What else do you have planned for the rest of the year in terms of releases?
Emanuel Satie: Next up is an EP on Hot Since 82’s label Knee Deep and after a remix for Damian Lazarus on Crosstown Rebels. I’m also working on a remix for Billy Cobham for Rebirth, as a follow up of ‘Don’t Forget To Go Home’ and I have many more things that I can’t announce yet.
EG: What about gigs, any confirmed summer date that you are already looking forward?
Emanuel Satie: Yes! I’m going to play the main stage of Extrema Outdoor in Belgium before one
of my favorite DJs Sven Väth, the Ibiza season is looking tasty again as well, the only thing I can announce so far is that I’m gonna be back playing for Ants, we also have tours in South America, first time India, first US tour, Australia and much more in the planning. Before the summer I’m back at some of my favorite clubs like Fabric and Watergate as well.
EG: What’s your favorite part of being an artist?
Emanuel Satie: I love all aspects of my job, it never gets boring. I love the strategizing and marketing part, I love digging for new music, I love the energy of playing shows and connecting to people, seeing the world and travelling but what I love most is being in the studio creating. It’s why I got into this and it stays the most important aspect for me. I need it basically.
