During the last few months, Damian Lazarus and his Crosstown Rebels team worked tremendously to deliver a very special event to celebrate the Day of the Dead; a truly unique date in Mexico that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for those members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.
The location chosen for this unique version of Get Lost was the Lomas Altas Garden, located in Mexico City, providing its guests a natural feel and complementing the event producers to craft all the various details that went stage and prop design. We didn’t spend more than three minutes in line, something that we always appreciate! Upon entering the venue, the first impression was a movie-like setup with superb attention to detail, showcasing “El Dia De Los Muertos” and raising our expectations to what became a night to remember.
After some great sets by local hero Robbie Akbal and by Get Lost regular Magit Cacoon, we had the chance to dance into the sound of German DJ and producer &ME who we personally believe was one of the highlights. As we strolled through the venue you could see skulls everywhere, emblematic of the day of the dead, in addition to the typical flowers to honor those who have left us. On both sides of the stage, they raised an altar with images of iconic artists, including The King: Elvis Presley.
All around, people were using make up, painting themselves with motifs of the celebration. As we danced into the late hours, a group of Mexican warriors came from nowhere. They had their faces painted and took the stage repeating a spell or pray, in an ancient language we couldn’t understand.
As the party moved into the late hours, it was time for Damian Lazarus to take the stage, following Serge Devant’s session. Everyone was excited, cheering and dancing to the music, while the leader of the rebels got his set going complemented by coffins carried through the dance floor. It was truly a well-thought experience and hats off to Crosstown Rebels and their team for creating an involving experience. The surprises did not stop there. From one of the coffins, we saw a “Calavera Catrina” dressed in the 1920’s style, something also common of this festivity.
Finally came the turn of Felix Da Housecat, who took the stage with a big smile, hugged Damian and stayed there dancing. For our enjoyment, he played impeccably, including two of his greatest hits: ‘Frank Sinatra’ and ‘Silver Screen Shower Scene’. The artist from Chicago definitely knew how to keep everyone on the dancefloor, flowing with the music and smiling until after dawn.
Once again Crosstown Rebels celebrated the ‘Day of the Dead’ tradition with an epic event. We will be waiting for it next year, and to pay respects to those souls who are no longer with us.
