AlphaTheta has launched the DDJ-GRV6, a new four-channel controller for rekordbox DJ and Serato.
The DDJ-GRV6 boasts an array of features designed to elevate DJ performance. It includes four up-faders, Color FX per channel, three-band EQ, and a trim knob for precise mix control. With its Beat FX section and CDJ layout—complete with eight performance pads per deck—the controller offers a familiar yet advanced interface. A dedicated button allows seamless switching between deck pairs, maximizing flexibility during sets.
The standout feature of the DDJ-GRV6 is its Groove Circuit, particularly the Drum Swap function. Utilizing stem separation technology, it enables real-time drum track replacement. DJs can swap rhythm tracks with rekordbox DJ loops, fostering creative genre-blending and on-the-fly remixing.
The Capture button empowers DJs to record and save drum patterns from tracks into Drum Swap Banks, which can be recalled later or saved to rekordbox. Complementing this, the Drum Release function ensures smooth transitions between the Drum Swap Bank loop and the original track, maintaining the mix’s flow.
While the Groove Circuit feature showcases the creative potential of stem separation technology, results may vary, especially on club systems. Despite potential artifacts, this technology represents a significant advancement in DJ software and is becoming indispensable for emerging DJs.
Although Groove Circuit is exclusive to rekordbox, Serato users can access Stem FX on the DDJ-GRV6. This hardware overlay allows DJs to apply effects to individual stems within tracks.
The DDJ-GRV6 features a Discovery button for Collection Radar integration in rekordbox 7. It offers master TRS/RCA outputs, RCA booth outputs, and a USB-C port for laptop connectivity.
