Meyer: “I would love to leave a legacy through my music and brand”

One of Ukraine’s youngest and brightest electronic music talents on the rise, Meyer is no stranger to the elite music scene.

His path to connoisseurship began fairly early on, showing an independent creative mind from the get-go. His first two releases in 2011 under Ost & Meyer, ‘Britanica’ and ‘Here We Go’ were released on the UK label Anjunabeats. A few EPs later, he moved from Anjunabeats to Enhanced Progressive. With tracks like ‘Take Off’ and ‘Liquify’, he combined his unique sound with a maximum of varieties.

In 2013 Meyer created his production alias, Meyer Music releasing groundbreaking records on the local pop scene and gaining him musical recognition in his homeland.  With his ambition, passion, and desire for new and experimental musical directions, he shows his audiences over and over again how exciting his music can be – so much more than just a conglomerate of repetitive and self-lacerating elements.

EG caught up with Meyer to learn more about the release of his new single ‘Gravity’, inspirations, the state of the scene, and more.

EG: Hi, Meyer! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you right now?

Meyer: Thank you for asking, I have been doing great!  I am currently in my hometown Kyiv, Ukraine.

EG: First of all, congratulations on the release of your new single ‘Gravity’! You must be very excited to share this one! What has the initial reception been like? Do you remember the first time you played this one live?

Meyer: I am definitely very excited to share this track with everyone. I was fortunate enough for this track to be picked up by Octopus Records. SIAN tested this track first time in Denver, and the initial reception was great!

EG: ‘Gravity’ sees you linking up with TONYB. How did this collaboration come about? Did you guys have a previous relationship?

Meyer: TONYB. is a remarkable talent that I connected with online. While we didn’t have a previous relationship, the creative process with him was seamless and fruitful.

EG: So, what’s ‘Gravity’ all about? Is there a concept behind it? What was the collaborative process like?

Meyer: The track started as an instrumental initially. However, the more I worked on it the more I realized that it needed vocals to convey the true message in the music.

“My hope is that my music will set new trends and will be an influence on electronic music for years to come”

EG: Having achieved success as Ost & Meyer almost a decade ago, what drove you to move forward as a solo act?

Meyer: Ost & Meyer came to its natural end several years ago and at that time I started focusing on my individual style. It was then that I discovered my passion for a new genre, melodic house & techno.

EG: What is your biggest dream here? In which ways would you like to leave a mark years from now?

Meyer: I would love to leave a legacy through my music and brand. My hope is that my music will set new trends and will be an influence on electronic music for years to come.

EG: Right now, social media seems to play a completely prominent role in the development of an artist’s career. What’s your stance on this? Is the bringing us closer than ever, or is it drawing our attention away from the actual music?

Meyer: That is an interesting question. While I see the value of connecting with your fans and community around the world through social media, at the end of the day, music is the most important aspect of this journey.

EG: How do you keep entertained when not in the studio? Have you recently found any good movies, books, or albums you’d recommend?

Meyer: When I need to decompress and step away for inspiration I like to play FIFA on PlayStation. In terms of movies, I am a big fan of Christopher Nolan movies.

EG: What’s next for Meyer? Where can your fans catch you next? What new milestones are you looking forward to in 2023?

Meyer: I have a project in the works for this Fall that I am very excited about. I have several tracks that will be released on the new label I am opening with my team.

EG: Thank you for your time, Meyer! We’re excited to see what’s in store for you. Take care!

Meyer: Thank you for having me and giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts. I hope you enjoy ‘Gravity’.
