ODTD049 marks the Øddity debut of in-demand Grammy-nominated US producers Fatum, who has carved out a formidable reputation for producing high calibre genre-crossing electronic music. This exciting two-tracker showcases a continued evolution in Fatum’s melodic techno sound as evidenced on recent outings for Radikon and Odd One Out.
The title track ‘U2C’ calls on talented singer/songwriter 88Birds. Setting a deep bass fuelled groove from the start, Fatum adds tension through echoed percussive crashes to create the perfect point for 88Birds timeless soulful vocal to enter. Classy synth layers enhance the breakdown while an expertly judged drop maintains the flow. A guaranteed summer stormer U2C is ideal for daytime festival/terrace plays and especially effective for twilight or early hours as the standout moment in a long journey.
‘Her Love’ sees Fatum take aim at the dance floor, using influences from the past in how they weave hypnotic melodies and rich analogue lines, alongside futuristic contemporary sounds that are firmly rooted in the present.
There is also a contrasting darker vibe at play here, underpinned by edgy jagged arps as the intensity builds throughout – making this a powerful weapon for DJs wanting to unite a crowd and lock in their focus.
Two impactful tracks and another important artist added to the catalogue as we now head towards Øddity’s 50th release.
Release date: August 18th, 2023.
