Sightseer: “I’ll never let the hype change who am I”

Sightseer was born in Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1985 and would soon enough move to another Brazilian state, Espírito Santo, and later to the United States to study Engineering and Administration. This travel experience would shape his artistic persona – Sightseer – a music sharer and creator who draws inspiration from the sheer contemplation of the world and transports it to his sonic landscape creations.

EG caught up with Sightseer to learn more about the release of his latest single ‘Chuleton’, his approach to music, travels, future endeavors, and more.

EG: Hi Sightseer! Welcome to EG. It’s a pleasure to have you here with us. How have you been? Where are you based right now?

Sightseer: Hello guys! First of all, thank you so much for the opportunity to be here. I am doing really well and inspired for the 2023 season. I am based in Lisbon at the time.

EG: First of all, congratulations on the release of your new single with Bia Souza, ‘Chuleton’! You must be very excited. What has the initial reception been like? How do you feel about this one?

Sightseer: Thank you! I am really excited about this one, it’s something new for me. The track is doing so well, playing in clubs worldwide and streaming a lot. Couldn’t be happier.

EG: And, what can your fans expect to find on ‘Chuleton’? What is it that sets this one apart from the rest?

Sightseer: It’s a very powerful slice of bass house with a very sexy Spanish vocal, which works really well in the club and makes the crowd dance with a lot of energy.

EG: How would you say you approach the music you make? Do you tell stories, are they just club tracks, or are they expressions of how you feel at that moment?

Sightseer: It depends so much on the season, but most of my tracks are specially made for that moment I am passing thru. But always I try to mix feelings, moments, and directions I want to go at that time.

EG: By the way, you’re from Brazil, but made the move to Portugal? When did this happen? Was the move motivated by music?

Sightseer: Yes, I am Brazilian, but at a young age I moved to the USA, and after that, I kept on moving to a lot of other countries. Finally, in 2016, I moved to Portugal, and it’s been my new home since then. And also I found myself more confident with the music.

EG: You’re also an ambassador for Unlock Energy. How did this association come about? What does it entail? What are some of its benefits for you as an artist?

Sightseer: This was kind of funny! Last year I performed on a stage that they sponsored and the next day I received a message from Unlock’s CEO inviting me to a meeting. I didn’t expect for that and he made my day. Being by the side of a trustable company and getting the right support is very important for an artist. It will help me to grow faster because they’ll bring more opportunities.

EG: How do you feel about the role of social media in the music industry? Is it drawing us too far away from the actual music? How can we make our interactions with social media serve us better?

Sightseer: I feel good about that. Changes must be made, the whole world is changing so fast. I see a lot of artists changing their style from day to night and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I keep my own way and I just play what I feel. Small changes are to be made, but I’ll never let hype change who am I. Originality will make better for interactions, for sure.

EG: How do you keep entertained when not in the studio? Have you checked out any good movies, series, books, or albums you’d recommend?

Sightseer: I keep myself always busy. There are always new things to do, and I also love to roll on my motorbike or skate. The sea and nature always provide inspiration.

EG: Can you tell us something about you that very few people know about?

Sightseer: Sure! I love to craft new things, whatever I need to build or fix, for sure I’ll put myself in.

EG: What’s next for Sightseer? What particular milestones are you looking forwards to this 2023? Where can your fans catch you next?

Sightseer: A dream and one that is very close to happening, a tour of Asia. This summer is bringing a lot of festivals and I’ll perform in some of them. Gigs are to be announced soon!

EG: Thank you so much for your time, Sightseer! We wish you all the best for the future.

Sightseer: Thanks a lot for the opportunity, it’s a pleasure to collaborate with you. I wish a great year for all of us.
