Tony Kay: “My lifestyle is different than most”

DJ and music production master Tony Kay is set to reach new heights with his impressive release schedule and the weekly drop of powerful episodes of his radio show ‘In the Mix’.

His signature style and sound which blends different genres, is certainly one not to miss, as his passion and love for music are evident in every release and live performance.

On this occasion, we invited Tony Kay to tell us more about his hobbies and routines aside from music. Here’s what he said:

EG: Hi Tony Kay, how are you?

Tony Kay: I’m doing well! Thanks for asking.

EG: Do you have any hobbies or are you searching for any new ones?

Tony Kay: I’m an adrenaline junkie. I love to go fast, feel the speed. My favorite hobby is jet skiing, buggy riding, and also do enjoy going to the track every now and then, and drive a supercar or an F2 car. Also, if I’m looking for something a bit more chill, I enjoy card games.

EG: Where’s your favorite spot to relax and reconnect with yourself?

Tony Kay: There are times when I just sit in my studio and chill on the couch, just relaxing. Other times, I do enjoy going out for a nice meal and going to a party but the music has to be good.

EG: Do you like sports? Do you have a favorite team or athlete you follow?

Tony Kay: I sometimes watch football, but I like Formula 1. I would say my favorite driver is Max Verstappen. He’s absolutely fearless and always pushing harder.

EG: Do you have a special routine, tradition, or habit you follow or do before a live performance?

Tony Kay: No, I just like to get some time to myself before I have to go on stage, then I just get up there and do what I do best.

EG: If you could meet someone for coffee, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Tony Kay: Steve Jobs. I’d want to meet him because I think he was a genius, a visionary. He knew how to make things that people wanted, and he knew how to get them out there in front of people who would want them. He was able to take something that most people thought was impossible and make it real, which is something I aspire to do with my own work.

EG: Let’s say you start a new career, non-music related, what would you do?

Tony Kay: I think I will be a chef, open a nice cozy restaurant with exceptional dishes. Something not too big, just a few tables and make it very authentic, definitely not like this new generation of fusion restaurants.

EG: What will surely always put you in a good mood no matter what?

Tony Kay: Music.

“If I feel like making some music, I know I’m in that state of mind then that’s what I’ll be doing. If not, I’ll be doing something else. And then there are times when I do really enjoy those 3-day benders.”

EG: Can you describe a perfect weekend?

Tony Kay: I don’t live my life divided between 5 working days and a weekend. My lifestyle is different than most, the only routine I have is going to the gym 4 to 5 times a week and recording a new episode of my radio show, ‘In The Mix’. The rest is solely based on what I decide I want to do that day. If I feel like making some music, I know I’m in that state of mind then that’s what I’ll be doing. If not, I’ll be doing something else. And then there are times when I do really enjoy those 3-day benders.

EG: Finally, which 3 items would you take with you to a desert island?

Tony Kay: I would take a box of matches, a sharp knife, and a towel. The box of matches is important because it would help me start a fire, and the knife would come in handy to create shelter. The towel would help me keep warm, and it’s also useful for cleaning up.
