Brussels group Nervian Society come in hot with their new five-track EP: a glorious celebration of their love of dance music that takes in electro, Italo-disco, and house.
Nervian Society is a new, Brussels-based act mining the glittering electro and disco depths for nuggets of pure sonic gold. In a previous life, their members founded the Spector Studio in Brussels where they record, produce music, and collaborate with many artists of the Brussels’ scene, including Flemish French speaking Pop band Que La Suite Soit Douce, electro-prose duet The Cultural Studies (a favorite of 6 Music’s Tom Robinson) and Punk-Hardcore act Instructor.
Nervian Society is D&D’s project surrounded by talented guests. The first D is the composer, producer, and sound engineer, who has worked with some renown artists (TTC, Dj Cam, JC de Castelbajac, Holden, Instructor, JL Aubert, Que La Suite Soit Douce, for example) while the other D crafts the unique electronic tools they use for their production. The project is devoted to their dance music passion: disco and electro with accents of house music for good measure. On stage, they perform a hybrid live DJ Set; a wall of sound made of loops, effects, mashups, modular synths, and live vocals.
Their debut single was Club D – released in 2021 as an homage to the Brussels parties they ran of the same name. Now they’re coming in hot with their debut EP, Ducpétiauxlaan, an infectious, dizzying five-track release that explores various shades of electronic music.
‘Elegant Ride On’ is a naïve and mystical track with a music video made from Spector Studio’s courtyard surveillance camera showing men at work in a surreal atmosphere.
‘In Love With A Movie Star’ is a retro electro-pop song featuring Flavia Clementi on vocals. The song is accompanied by a video that shows her – with the D of D&D that produces the music – recording in the studio, alongside a fake group comprised of the cream of Brussels hardcore punk.
‘Mainloft’ and ‘Lie To You’ are electro-dance tracks with Mien Heyvaert on lead vocals. Finally, ‘She Was A Summer Day’ is a gleaming Italo-disco, created when the group performed with a live set-up built around the old-school original Akai MPC-60.
