We had the chance to talk with him to look back how was 2016 and to look forward on what bringing this new year.
Electronic Groove: Hi Apollo, it’s a pleasure to chat with you. To get things started can you tell how did you get involved with dance music?
Apollo 84: Hi. I started listening to dance music when I was around 13 years of age, UK garage was very popular in London back then and that was my first experience of dance music. I was really into music and interested in Djing and how everything worked. I bought my first set of decks at the age of 16, and was fortunate enough to be getting regular gigs after just a year.
Electronic Groove: How would you define your musical style?
Apollo 84: My style is very much dancefloor driven, stomping with lots of energy. With the emphasis being on a tough groove and bass.
Electronic Groove: Looking back this year. How was 2016 for you?
Apollo 84: It’s been a great year, I’ve been fortunate enough to release my music on some amazing labels such as Steve Lawler’s VIVa Music imprint, Spanish giants Elrow, Incorrect, Sanity and Madtech have been amongst my other highlights this year release wise. I’ve also had a great experience with bookings, getting to play for Elrow at Sonar, performing at Space in Ibiza, and also touring Mexico has been great. My own imprint Twisted Fusion has also seen a superb 2016 with some fantastic releases from some of the industry biggest names, and our label showcases across the UK have really taken off.
“It’s been a great year, I’ve been fortunate enough to release my music on some amazing labels”
Electronic Groove: Any special gig you would like to mention as a special one for you?
Apollo 84: It would have to be Elrow in Barcelona. The whole day and experience was just amazing from start to finish, there’s no greater party and the crowd is amazing.
Electronic Groove: You also run your own label ‘Twisted Fusion‘, can you name a couple of release highlights related this year?
Apollo 84: That’s a tough one, there’s been so many, I would have to say some of the highlights have been EP’s from Jey Kurmis, Seff, Jacky and of course Elrow’s very own Toni Varga.
Electronic Groove: What’s in the pipeline for Twisted Fusion?
Apollo 84: We have some amazing music in 2017 coming from the likes of Wade, Paul C & Paolo Martini, Leftwing & Kody, Javi Bora, Waifs & Strays and many more. We also have showcases in London, Liverpool and Barcelona, whilst we also make our debut in the world famous Sankeys in Manchester.
Electronic Groove: Can you name a couple of tracks that define your past summer?
Apollo 84: Max chapman’s ‘Body Jack’ was a firm favorite of mine, Patrick Topping’s remix of Rasmakustic, and of course my good friend Raffa FL’s ‘How We Do’ track was a winner.
“My style is very much dancefloor driven, stomping with lots of energy”
