Iconic DJ & producer Theo Parrish and !K7 have shared a new documentary that explores the sounds of Detroit in ‘DJ-Kicks: Detroit Forward’. The short film is already available to stream via YouTube.
Directed by Kashira Dowdridge, ‘DJ-Kicks: Detroit Forward’ features interviews and commentary by WhoDat, Sophiyah E., Ian Fink, and Nova Zaii, who are also featured on Parrish’s soundtracking DJ-Kicks mix.
“Detroit creates. But rarely imitates. Why? We hear and see many from other places do that with what we originate. No need to follow. Get it straight. In the Great Lakes there are always more under the surface than those that appear to penetrate the top layer of attention and recognition. What about them that defy tradition? Those that side step the inaccurate definitions often given from outside positions? This is that evidence. Enjoy.” says Theo Parrish about the new project.
