Like a message beamed soulfully from the late 90s comes this seductive melodic drum and bass hybrid that would have happily opened an LTJ Bukem set back at London’s Bar Rumba. Built around the gorgeous opening bars of Lindsey Wesker’s 2015 soul-jazz stunner ‘Open Up’, the enigmatic former Talkin’ Loud alumni T.O.E. adds a prodding synth bass line (reminiscent of the great PFM – remember them?) that follows Wesker’s vocal harmonies and builds layer upon layer of polyrhythms, percussion, and cheeky keyboard sparkles until the track bursts with sunshine energy. ‘Slightly Beautiful’ is not ‘slightly’ anything, the song is utterly ravishing.
